STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Back

With A, ch 4, join into ring.

Round 1 – Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with slip st on top of ch 3; 12 dc counting ch 3 as 1 dc.

Round 2 – Ch 3, 1 dc in same place with joining st, 2 dc in each st, join as before; 24 dc.

Round 3 – Ch 3, 1 dc in same place with joining st, 1 dc in next st, * 2 dc in next st (increasing point), 1 dc in next st; repeat from * around, join as before; 12 inc. points with 1 st between increases; 36 dc.

Round 4 – Ch 3, 1 dc in same place with joining st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, repeat from * around, join as before.

Rounds 5 and 6 – Same as round 4, having 1 more dc between increases after each round; 72 sts.

Round 7 – Ch 3, 1 de in same place with joining st, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * around, join as before (18 inc. points); 96 dc.

Rounds 8 and 9 – Same as round 7, having 1 more dc between inc. points after each round, join; 126 sts.

Row 10 – short row – Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd st, 1 dc in each of next 102 sts; 104 dc including ch 3 (leave 22 sts free for neck).

Row 11 – Ch 3, turn, skip 1 st, 1 dc in each st; 104 dc.

Repeat row 11 until 22 short rows are completed. Continue for brim.

Brim for Baby Bonnet Pattern

Row 1 – Ch 1, turn (wrong side of brim), 1 sc in each st; 104 sc.

Row 2 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, * 1 picot (worked as in round 2 of border on sacque) in next st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * across, end 1 picot in last st.

Row 3 – Same as row 1.

Row 4 – Same as row 2.

Row 5 – Same as row 1.

Row 8 – Ch 3, turn, skip 1 st, 1 dc in each of next 33 sts, * 2 dc in each of next 8 sts, 1 dc in each of next 17; repeat from * twice, 1 dc in each st to end; 150 dc.

Rows 9 and 10 – Ch 3, turn, skip 1 st, 1 dc in each st; 150 dc.

Row 11 – Same as row 1.

Row 12 – Same as row 2.

Row 13 – Same as row 1. Fasten off.

Row 14 – Beginning at end of row 1 of brim, working from right side, 1 sc in end st of row, 1 picot in row 2, 1 sc in row 3, 1 picot in row 4, 1 sc in row 5, 1 picot and 1 sc under the end st of each of next 5 dc rows, 1 picot in next row, 1 sc in next row, 1 picot in next row, 1 sc, 1 picot, 1 sc on top of end st of last row; working along front of brim, * 1 picot in next st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * across row to within 3 sts of next corner, skip next st, 1 picot in next st, 1 sc, 1 picot and 1 sc in corner st, work down other side of brim to correspond to first side.

Row 15 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st with 3 sc in each of 2 corner sts.

Row 16 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, 1 picot in next st, * 1 sc in next st, 1 picot in next st *; repeat between *’s to next corner, 1 sc, 1 picot, 1 sc all in corner st, 1 picot in next st; repeat between *’s to next corner st, 1 sc, 1 picot, 1 sc in corner, 1 picot in next st; repeat between *’s to end. Fasten off.

Neck Band for Baby Bonnet Pattern

Row 1 – With A, from wrong side, work 1 sc in first dc row from brim, * 2 sc in next row, 1 sc in each of next 2 rows, repeat from * to back, 15 sc on free sts at back of neck, spacing sts evenly, 29 sc along other side of cap; 73 sc.

Row 2 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, * 1 picot in next st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * across row.

Row 3 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Row 4 – Same as row 2. Fasten off.

Tack each end of neck band to edge of brim.

Ch Loop Pattern – With B, and back of cap toward you, fold work on top of round 9 of back of cap, insert hook under fold in first st of row 10, work 1 sc, ch 10, 1 sc in same manner between 4th and 5th dc; continue pat. as on back of sacque, 26 ch loops across. Work 10 rows of ch loop pat. as first 10 rows on sacque. Work 11th row repeating between *’s of row 22 of sacque. Fasten off. Steam lightly.

Buttons for Baby Bonnet Pattern

With A, ch 4, join into a ring. Ch 1, * 1 sc, 1 picot in ring; repeat from * 6 times, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off. Make 4. Tack brim back by sewing buttons as illustrated. Trim with ribbon.
