REQUIRED MATERIALS
Bucilla Crochelle or Fleisher’s Glo-Twist, 4 balls
Bucilla or Fleisher’s Steel Crochet Hook, Size 7

Gauge: 10 sts = l inch; 3 sc and 3 dc rows = 1 inch
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Back of this Bonny Bonnet
Ch 35.
Row 1 – 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each st to end; 33 dc counting ch 3 as dc.
Row 2 – right side – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 8 sts, * a long dc on post of next dc as follows: yo, insert hook through top loops at base of next dc, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo, draw through last 2 loops on hook; skip the dc directly in back of long dc, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts; repeat from * twice, 1 sc in last st.
Row 3 – Ch 3, turn, skip 1 st, 1 dc in each st; 33 dc.
Row 4 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 6 sts, ^ 1 daisy over next 5 sts as follows: work a long sc inserting hook through top of next long de 2 rows below, yo, draw up a long loop, hold loop on hook, insert hook in next dc, yo, draw through dc and long loop, yo, through 2 loops on hook, * 1 sc in next st, a long sc in the same place as last long sc; repeat from * once, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts ^; repeat between ^’s twice, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts.
Row 5 – Same as row 3.
Row 6 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 4 sts, * a long dc as before over base of next st, skip the dc in back of long dc, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts; repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat with 4 sc.
Row 7 – Same as row 3.
Row 8 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 2 sts, * 1 daisy over next 5 sts worked as before, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat 2 sc.
Row 9 – Same as row 3.
Repeat last 8 rows for pattern until there are 28 rows from beginning, end on right side with 4th pat. row. Fasten off.
With loop on hook, working from right side around 3 sides of back, 1 sc in first st of foundation ch, * 2 sc under end st of next dc row, 1 sc in end st of next sc row; repeat from * 13 times, 2 sc in same place with last sc for corner; working along top of back, 1 sc in each of next 31 sts, 3 sc in next (comer) st; work down left side to correspond; 121 sc.
Row 2 – Ch 3, turn, working in front loop of sts, skip 1 st, 1 dc in each of next 42 sts, 3 dc in next (corner) st, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 29 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 3 dc in next (corner) st, 1 dc in each of next 43 sts; 129 sts in row.
Row 3 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 4 sts, * 1 long dc, skip st in back of long dc, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts; repeat from * across, end last repeat with 4 sc (1 long dc at each of 2 corners).
Rows 4, 5 and 6 – Same as rows 7, 8 and 9 of back respectively.
Continue pat. as for back until there are 33 rows from side of bonnet, end with 4th pattern row.
Row 34 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.
Row 35 – Ch 1, turn, leaving front loop of sts free for brim, working in back loop of sts, 1 sc in each st.
Row 36 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.
Neck Band
Continue on neck edge of bonnet, working 36 sc on side to back, 24 sc across back and 36 sc on other side, spacing sts evenly; 96 sc.
Next row – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc. Fasten off.
Work a row sc around back working into the loops left free in first row around the 3 sides. Fasten off.
Bonnet Brim
Row 1 – With loop on hook, working from right side, 1 sc in each free loop on row 34; 129 sc.
Row 2 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 25 sts, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts; repeat from * 13 times, 1 sc in each st to end; 143 sc Fasten off.
Short rows – Row 3 – Turn, skip first 35 sts, slip st in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 67, slip st in each of next 3 sts.
Row 4 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 73 sts, slip st in each of next 5 sts.
Right Section – Row 5 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 39 sts.
Row 6 – Ch 1, turn, skip first st, 1 sc in each of next 38 sts, slip st in each of next 5 sts.
Row 7 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 43 sts.
Rows 8, 9, 10, 11 – Work as for rows 6 and 7 respectively having 4 more sts on each row beginning at center edge; 51 sc.
Row 12 – Ch 1, turn, skip first st, * 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 5 times, 1 sc in each of next 26 sts, slip st in each of next 5 sts; 61 sts.
Row 13 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.
Row 14 – Ch 1, turn, skip first st, 1 sc in each st, slip st in 5 more sts at end of row.
Rows 15, 16, 17 – Repeat rows 13 and 14 alternately; 69 sts.
Row 18 – Ch 1, turn, skip first st, * 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 4 times, 1 sc in each st to end; 73 sts.
Row 19 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. Fasten off.
Left Section – Row 5 – Skip 5 center sts, with loop on hook, 1 sc in each of next 34 sts, slip st in each of next 5 sts.
Row 6 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st to within 1 st of end (a dec).
Row 7 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st, slip st in 5 more sts at end of row.
Rows 8, 9, 10, 11 – Repeat rows 6 and 7 alternately; 51 sts.
Row 12 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 26 sts, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * 5 times, skip last st; 56 sts.
Rows 13 to 19 – Work to correspond to right section; 73 sts.
Row 20 – Ch 1, turn, work across both sections, 1 sc in each st, 1 sc in each row at center shaping; 181 sts.
Continue last row around side of brim with slip st in each row to first row of brim.
Take a 22 inch wire and fold 1/2 inch at each side, pin center to center of brim.
Row 21 – Ch 1, turn, working over the wire, 2 sc in first st, a double sc in next st as follows: draw up a loop through next st, ch 1, draw up another loop through same st, yo, through 3 loops on hook; a double sc in each st to corner; bend wire to shape of brim and work a double sc in each st; finish other side of brim to correspond. Fasten off.
Sew ends of wire in place. Trim as illustrated.
