Crocheting a Hat for an Infant
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Sultana Beaulysheen (All Rayon), 2 halls
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 1
NOTE(s)
This beret if for a child 6 months to 1 year old.
Gauge: 9 sts = l inch; 10 rounds = l inch
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 4. Join in a ring. Work 6 s c in ring.
First Round – 2 s c in each st (12 s c).
2nd Round – * 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * 5 times. Mark last st as end of round.
3rd Round – * 1 s c in each of 2 sts, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * to end of round. Inc. should be in last st of inc. in previous round.
Continue to increase in this way, having 1 st more between increases in each successive round until there are 26 sts between inc. sts (168 sts).
Work 16 rounds even.
* Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts, work off as 1 s c, 1 s c in each of next 26 sts; repeat from * around.
* Dec. 1 st, work 25 sts; repeat from * around.
Continue to dec. in this way until there are 20 sts between decreases. Work 6 rounds even. Fasten off.
Cut a cardboard 10 inches in diameter. Insert in beret and steam.
Tab – Ch 11, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each st to end of ch, 10 s c on other side of ch. Fasten off. Sew to center top of beret.
