Crochet Baby Bonnet – Center Back
Ch 3, join with slip st into ring, ch 1, work 6 sc in ring, join with slip st in first sc.
Round 2 – Ch 1, turn, work 2 sc in each sc to end of round, join; 12 sc.
Round 3 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * 2 sc in next sc (an inc.), 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * around, end 2 sc in last sc, join; 18 sc.
Round 4 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around, end 2 sc in last st, join; 24 sc.
Repeat last round having 1 sc more between increases every round until there are 48 sc.
Round 9 – Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in same st as slip st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in next st (a shell); repeat from * around, end ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 more dc in same st as first dc, ch 2, slip st in top of ch 3; 12 shells.

Round 11 – Turn, slip st in first ch 2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, * ch 1, skip last 2 dc of shell. 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc all in next shell; repeat from *, end as for round 10 with 3 dc in half of shell instead of 2 dc.

Crochet Baby Bonnet – Pattern

Crochet Baby Bonnet – Front Band
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, * 2 sc in next sp, 1 sc in next sp, 1 sc in top of next dc, 1 sc in next sp, 2 sc in next sp, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * to end; 121 sc.
Row 2 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Crochet Baby Bonnet – Neck Band
Ch 1, do not turn, continue working along side of sc rows, spacing sts evenly, 1 sc in each of first 10 rows, 22 sc along side of pat. rows, 25 sc at back of neck, 22 sc along side of pat. rows, 10 sc on side of sc rows; 89 sc.
Row 2 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Crochet Baby Bonnet – Ruffle
Holding back of cap toward you, fold work toward front on first sc row of front band, working from right side and inserting hook through fold, work 1 sc between first and 2nd sc of first row of band, ch 1, 1 sc between 3rd and 4th sc of same row, ch 1, 1 sc between 5th and 6th sc, continue in this way across row; 60 sc with ch 1 between.

Crochet Baby Bonnet – Finishing
Steam lightly. Fold ruffle hack forming 6 scallops, allowing 6 shells for each scallop and 2 shells at each end. Tack scallops in place. With contrasting color make 6 flowers as for sweater. Sew in place and embroider as for sweater, see illustration. Trim with ribbon.
