Jingle Bells Potholder - Free Crochet Pot Holder Pattern

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Art. 600 Lily Cotton Yarn Skeins or
Art. 930 Sugar ‘N Cream Yarn Balls
1 Skein or Ball each: Red, Emerald Green, Tea Rose and
Art. 21 Lily Six Strand Floss
2 Skeins Each; Scarlet and Emerald Green
Crochet Hooks Nos. 0 and 5

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Jingle Bells Potholder – Red Bell

Front – With Red Yarn and No. 0 hook, ch 15, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make dc in next 2 ch, yarn over and draw thru all lps on hook (a Cluster-decrease made), dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc and hdc in end ch.

Row 2 – Ch 3, turn, sc in each st across with sc and hdc in end ch-3.

Repeat once.

Row 4 – Ch 1, turn, sc in 16 sts, sc in end ch.

Row 5 thru 9 – (Ch 1, turn, sc in 17 sts) 5 times.

Row 10 – Ch 3, turn, sc in each sc across with sc and hdc in end st.

Row 11 – Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across to end ch.

Rows 12 thru 16 – (Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across) 5 times.

Repeat Rows 10, 11 and 12 three times (thru Row 25).

Repeat Rows 10, 11 and 10 once more (thru Row 28).

Row 29 – Ch 3, turn, dc and hdc in 1st st, hdc in next 6 sts, sc in next 14 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, dc in next 3 sts. 2 dc in end ch.

Row 30 – Draw Tea Rose thru lp on hook, turn, cut Red 3″ long and working over Red end and starting end of Tea Rose into back lps only, make 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 6 sts, hdc in next 18 sts, sc in next 6 sts, sc and hdc in end ch. Work following rows in both lps again.

Row 31 – Ch 1, turn, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in next 19 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next st.

Row 32 – Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, dc in next 18 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 2 sts.

Row 33 – Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, (dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) 3 times, dc in next 7 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off.

Edge – Turn. Join Red and make a sl st in each st of last row, then work around bal. of Bell with sc. Join and fasten off.

Jingle Bells Potholder – Back

Repeat thru Row 21.

Row 22 – Ch 1, turn, sc in 11 sc, ch 9, sk 9 sc for thumb opening, sc in next 3 sc.

Row 23 – Ch 3, turn, sc in 3 sc, sc in each st of ch-9, sc in next 10 sc, sc and hdc in end st.

Repeat Rows 11, 12, 10, 11, 10 and 29. Continuing with Red, work Row 30 in both lps of sts, then repeat Rows 31, 32 and 33.

Repeat Edge.

Jingle Bells Potholder – Thumb

With Tea Rose:

Join to end of thumb opening closest to edge, dc in 9 sts across bottom of opening, hdc in end of opening, sc in 0 sts across top of opening. Without joining rows, make sc in 19 sts around for 5 rows.

Rows 7 thru 12 – Make one decrease in each row for 6 rows.

Row 13 – Make 6 decreases, sl st in next st.

Cut 8″ long and sew end tog.

Clapper – Jingle Bells Potholder

Front – With Scarlet Floss and No. 5 hook, ch 2, 6 sc in 2d ch from hook, without joining rows and working in back lps only, make (2 sc in next sc) 6 times.

Row 3 – (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times.

Row 4 – (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times.

Row 5 – Increase in every 4th sc.

Row 6 – Inc. in every 5th sc.

Row 7 – Inc. in every 6th sc.

Row 8 – Work even. Ch 9, 3 dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in next 4 ch, * turn, sk 2 sc on circle, sl st in next sc. Fasten off.

Back – Repeat thru Row 7. Fasten off.

Sew 2 halves of Clapper tog. back-to-back, padding slightly between them with a roll of Red Yarn. Sew across right end of Tea Rose rows as illustrated, sew the 2 sections of holder log. leaving large end of Bell open. With Red Floss cover a bone ring with sc and sew to back below top.

Jingle Bells Potholder – Green Bell

Repeat with Green and Tea Rose. With Green Floss repeat Clapper to *, without turning sk 2 sc on circle, sl st in next sc. Fasten off.

Repeat Back, sew 2 halves tog. and sew clapper across left side of Tea Rose rows Finish as for Red Bell.

Steam and press holders dry on back thru a cloth.
