Crochet a Hat
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Coats & Clarks’s O.N.T. “Speed-Cro-Sheen” Mercerized Cotton, Art. C.44: 9 balls of No. 49-A Killarney.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook: No. 2/0 (double zero)
A Crown Zipper, 10 inches long, Style F.1
12 packages of Walco pearl drops, Style No. 69
1/4 yard green felt for lining

There is also a pattern for a matching bag. The ‘required materials’ are what is required to make BOTH the fez and the matching bag.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
The Hat
Starting at center of top, ch 2.
1st Rnd – 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
2nd Rnd – 2 sc in each sc around.
3rd Rnd – * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased). Repeat from * around.
4th to 10th Rnds – Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly on each rnd.
11th Rnd – Picking up back loop only, sc in each sc around.
12th and 13th Rnds – Sc in each sc around.
14th Rnd – Sc in first 30 sc (this is back of hat), sc in each remaining sc, increasing 6 sc evenly.
15th to 23rd Rnds – Repeat 12th, 13th, and 14th rnds respectively 3 more times. Work in sc pattern, increasing 6 sc evenly all around on every 3rd rnd, until pieve measures 22 inches around lower edge. Now work without increasing until piece measures 8 inches from center top. Break off.
The Scallop Strip
Make a chain to reach loosely around outer edge of hat following rnd made in back loop at top. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. * skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across until piece is long enough to reach around hat. Break off. Make 5 more pieces the same way, spacing each piece 1 1/4 inches apart, and increasing each chain to fit. Sew a pearl drop between each scallop and sew strips in place.
