REQUIRED MATERIALS
J&P Coats or Clark’s O. N. T. Mercerized Crochet Cotton, size 20, or a medium-weight bedspread cotton, a number 9 crochet hook and a piece of felt, flannel, or other interlining are needed.

Abbreviations: Ch (chain); sc (single crochet); st (stitch); dc (double crochet); sl st (slip stitch); sk (skip); inc (increase – work 2 sts in one st); dec (decrease – work 2 sts off as one); hdc (half double crochet) – thread over as for a dc, insert hook in st and pull lp through, thread over and pull through all 3 lps on hook at once.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
With white or preferred color, ch 55, sc in second st from hook, sc in each st of ch, ch 3, turn.
Row 2 – Dc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 3 – Sc in each dc, ch 2, turn.
Repeat these 2 rows until 37 rows have been worked, or until piece is square.
Finish
