STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Vintage Baby Booties Sole

Ch 26, 2 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in each of next 6 sts, 7 dc in last st; working on other side of foundation ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, 1 sc in same place as first 2 sc, join with slip st in first sc.

Row 2 — Ch 3 (do not turn, all rows are worked from same side), 4 dc in same st as slip st, 1 dc in each of next 24 sts, 2 dc in each of next 7 sts, 1 dc in each of next 24 sts, 4 more dc in same st as first dc, join with slip st in top of ch 3; 71 dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc.

Row 3 — Ch 3, 1 dc in same st as slip st, 2 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of next 24 sts, 2 dc in each of next 14 sts, 1 dc in each of next 24 sts, 2 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in same st as first dc, join; 95 sts.

Row 4 — Ch 3, 1 dc in same st as slip st, 1 dc in each st around, end 1 dc in same st as first dc, join; 97 sts.

Fasten off. Sole should measure about 4 ins. Make 4. Sew 2 soles together with cardboard between if desired.

Vintage Baby Booties Top

Ch 12 for toe, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 3 sc in next (center) st, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts; 13 sts. Work entire top working in back loop of sts.

Row 2 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 6 sts, 3 sc in next (center) st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts; 15 sts.

Row 3 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st to center, 3 sc in center st, 1 sc in each st to end.

Row 4 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until 22 rows from beginning; 35 sts.

Row 23 — Ch 1, turn, work first 16 sc.

Row 24 — Ch 11, turn, work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook and in each ch and st to end; 26 sts.

Row 25 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Repeat last row 22 times. Fasten off. Ch 10, skip 3 center sts of 22nd row, work 1 sc in each of next 16 sc.

Next Row — Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each st and ch to end; 26 sts.

Repeat last row 22 times. Fasten off.

Vintage Baby Booties Finishing

Sew back seam. Sew top to sole, leaving toe open.

Edging and Loops — Working from right side, join on top edge of bootee at seam, work 1 sc in end of each row to front opening, 3 sc in corner; 1 sc in next st on edge of opening, * ch 3, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts *; repeat between *’s once, ch 3, 1 sc in each of 3 sts of point, ch 3, work up other edge of opening as follows: 1 sc in each of 2 sts, repeat between *’s once, ch 3, skip 2, 1 sc in next st, 3 sc in corner, continue sc to seam, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

With contrasting color make flower as for sweater, sew to top of bootie. Embroider as for sweater, see illustration. Lace ribbon through loops on front opening and tie in bow.
