STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 144, yarn over hook, insert in 4th st from hook and pull loop through, yarn over hook, skip 1 st of ch, insert in next st of ch, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time, ch 1 (the ch 1 is termed the eye of st), * yarn over hook, insert in same space with last st, pull loop through, yarn over hook, skip 1 st of ch, insert in next st of ch, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all 3 loops at one lime, ch 1 (pattern), repeat from * across row ending with ch 1, ch 2 more to turn.
2nd Row. Yarn over hook, insert in eye of last st made, pull loop through, yarn over hook, insert in eye of next st of previous row, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all 5 loops at one time, ch 1, * yarn over hook, insert in eye of same st of previous row, pull loop through, yarn over hook, insert in eye of next st of previous row, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all 5 loops at one time, ch 1, repeat from * across row, inserting hook in 3rd st of end ch and complete st, ch 1, then ch 2 more to turn.
Repeat the last row until work measures 26 inches, cut yarn.
Crocheting the Gusset
Ch 12 and work 4 patterns on ch same as on bunting, ch 2, turn.
Next Row. Increase 1 pattern at beginning and end of row (6 patterns), ch 2, turn.
Next Row. Work even in pattern, ch 2, turn.
Next Row. Increase 1 pattern at beginning and end of row (8 patterns).
Work even in pattern until piece measures 14 inches from the beginning.
Next Row. Decrease 1 pattern at beginning and end of row – (to decrease: * yarn over, insert in eye of next pattern, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time}, then work 1 row even.
Next Row. Decrease 1 pattern at beginning and end of row, cut yarn. With “STAR” MERCERIZED SEWING THREAD sew binding across 2 short sides and 1 long side. Fold so opening is at center, then sew gusset in position. Sew zipper in position.
Crocheting the Hood
Starting at front of hood ch 64 and work in pattern same as bunting until work measures 6 inches, cut yarn leaving a length. Fold in half crosswise and sew last row together for back seam.
Ch 8, then work 29 s c across lower edge or hood, ch 10, turn.
Next Row – Beading: S d c in 5th st from hook (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, s d c in next st, repeat from * twice, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, s d c in next s c, repeat from * 13 times, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, s d c in next st, repeat from * 3 times, ch 3, turn.
Next Row – Cape: * Yarn over hook, insert in same space, pull loop through, yarn over hook, insert in next s d c, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time, ch 1, repeat from * twice, yarn over, insert in same space, pull loop through, yarn over, insert in next mesh, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time (an increase), repeat from 1st * across row, ch 2 more to turn.
Next 3 Rows. Work in pattern same as bunting increasing 1 pattern at beginning and end of each row.
Next Row. Work even in pattern, cut yarn.
Attach yarn at left side of neck edge, * ch 2, skip 1/4 inch space, 2 d c in next space, ch 2, skip 1/4 inch space, s c in next space, repeat from * once, ch 2, 2 d c in corner of cape, working across lower edge, * ch 2, skip 1 st, s c in next st, ch 2, skip 1 st, 2 d c in next st, repeat from * across row, finish opposite front to correspond, cut yarn.
TIE: Crochet a ch about 30 inches long and lace through beading. Finish with small pompons.
POMPON: Wind yarn over 2 fingers 32 times. Tie through center and cut both ends. Trim into shape and attach to each end of tie. Sew binding around front edge of hood.
