1 1/2 Inch Hairpin Staple

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Crochet Stole Pattern – Hairpin Lace

Make a loop at end of thread and place 1 prong of staple in loop just made, wind thread around right prong of staple, insert hook in loop, thread over hook and draw through loop keeping work at center, * drop loop from hook, turn staple 1/2 turn to the left, pick up the dropped loop at center, thread over hook and pull through, insert hook through top part of loop on left hand prong, thread over and pull through (2 loops on hook), thread over and pull through both loops completing the single crochet, repeat from * for desired length.

Work a length of hairpin lace having 460 loops on each side of staple, cut thread. Keeping the twist in the loops, attach thread through 1st 2 loops of hairpin lace, work a double knot st (double knot st: * draw up a 3/8 inch loop on hook, thread over hook and pull through loop forming a ch st, s c over single loop of st, repeat from * once), s c through next 2 loops of hairpin lace, * work a double knot st, s c through next 2 loops of hairpin lace, repeat from * twice, ** double knot st, s c through next 10 loops of hairpin lace working through all loops at one time, * double knot st, s c through next 2 loops of hairpin lace, repeat from * 4 times, repeat from ** across length ending with double knot sl, s c through next 10 loops of hairpin lace, double knot st, s c in s c at center of strip, working on opposite side of same strip, ** work a double knot st, s c through next 2 loops of hairpin lace, * double knot st, s c through next 2 loops of hairpin lace, repeat from * 3 times, double knot st, s c through next 10 loops of hairpin lace (10 loop cluster), repeat from last ** across row ending with double knot st, s c in center s c of hairpin lace, double knot st, join in same space as beginning, cut thread.

Work another strip in same manner but do not cut thread.

Work double knot st, s c in center s c of next double knot st, * double knot st, s c in center s c of next double knot st, repeat from * across I side of strip to the double knot st before the 10 loop cluster, work a double knot st, s c in center s c of double knot st after the 10 loop cluster, work a single knot st (single knot st: draw up a 3/8 inch loop on hook, thread over hook and pull through loop forming a ch st, s c over single loop of st), turn.

Join to 1st strip as follows: join to center s c of double knot st between the 2nd and 3rd double loop group of 1st strip with an s c, * work a single knot st, s c in center s c of next double knot st of 2nd strip, single knot st, s c in center s c of next double knot st of 1st strip, repeat from * across strip joining last single knot st in center s c of double knot st after the 10 loop cluster, cut thread.

Work 5 more strips and join in same manner.
