2 Balls – Brown Mist No. 1414

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

To Make One Motif

With Sunlight Yellow Ch. 8, join.

Row 1 – Ch. 3, 29 D.C. in ring, join to 3rd Ch. at start.

Row 2 – * Ch. 5, skip 4 D.C, 1 S.C. in next St., repeat from * around, (6 loops) break yarn.

Row 3 – Join second color in last loop, Ch. 5, * 8 D.C. in next loop, Ch. 2, repeat from * around, ending 7 D.C, slip St. to 3rd Ch. at start of row.

Row 4 – Ch. 3, 2 D.C. in Ch. 2 space, 1 D. C. in each of 6 D.C. (picking up back loop only), Ch. 2, skip 2 D.C., repeat from * around, slip St. to 3rd Ch. at start, break yarn.

Row 5 – Join yarn in last D.C. Ch. 3, * 3 D.C. in Ch. 2 space, 1 D.C. in each of 6 D.C, Ch. 2, repeat from * around, ending slip St. to 3rd Ch.

Row 6 – Join Black in last D.C. Ch. 3, * 4 D.C. in Ch. 2 space, draw second color through last loop on hook, (working over Black strand) 1 D.C. in each of 7 D.C, Ch. 2, draw Black strand through last Ch. on hook, repeat from * around, ending Ch. 2, slip St. to 3rd Ch. at start, break second color strand.

Row 7 – Draw Black strand through last D.C, Ch. 3, * 5 D.C. in Ch. 2 space, 1 D.C. in each Black D.C, draw second color through last Ch. on hook, 1 D.C. in each of 5 D.C. (working over the Black strand), Ch. 2, repeat from * around, ending slip St. to 3rd Ch. at start, break second color strand.

Row 8 – Draw Black strand through last D.C, Ch. 3, * 6 D.C in Ch. 2 space, 1 D.C. in each Black D.C, draw second color through, then close the point as follows: ** Y.O. insert hook in next D.C, Y.O. and through St., Y.O. and through 2 loops only, leaving 2 loops on hook, repeat from ** in each D.C. of second color, then Y.O. and through 6 loops on hook, repeat from * around, break second color.

Row 9 – Ch. 5, 1 D.C. in next St., * Ch. 2, skip 1 St., 1 D.C. in next St., repeat from * around, working 1 D.C, Ch. 2, 1 D.C. at each point.

Row 10 – With Brown Mist work same as Row 9, working 2 D.C, Ch. 2, 2 D.C. in each corner and Ch. 2, D.C. over D.C.

Make 28 Motifs using Color No. 1 (as second color), 28 of Color No. 2, 29 of Color No. 3, 29 of Color No. 4 and 29 of Color No. 5. (143 Motifs in all).

To Make Half Motif

With Sunlight Yellow Ch. 4, join with slip St.

Row 1 – Ch. 3, 14 D.C. in ring, turn.

Row 2 – * Ch. 5, skip 4 D.C, 1 S.C. in next St., repeat from * twice (3 loops), break yarn.

Row 3 – Join second color in first loop, Ch. 3, 7 D.C. in loop, Ch. 2. 8 D.C. in next loop, Ch. 2, 8 D.C. in 3rd loop. Break yarn. (Start each row at same side).

Row 4 – Ch. 3, skip 1 St., 1 D.C. in each of next 5 D.C., * Ch. 2, 2 D.C. in next space, 1 D.C. in each of next 6 D.C, repeat from *, ending Ch. 2, 1 D.C. in last St., break yarn.

Row 5 – Ch. 3, 1 D.C. in each of next 3 Sts., * Ch. 2, 3 D.C. in space, 1 D.C. in each of next 6 Sts., repeat from *, ending 4 D.C. in space.

Continue in this manner to corresjHiud with half of large Motif.

Make 4 Half Motifs, using Color No. 1 (as second color), 4 of Color No. 2, 2 of Color No. 3. 2 of Color No. 4 and 2 of Color No. 5.

Sew Motifs together on wrong side (using Half Motifs at each side) following Chart.

Making the Fringe

Wind Black around a 5 inch cardboard, cut loops at one side. Using 4 strands, double and knot fringe in every other St. at each end of Afghan.
