This puffy blouse is for a girl who is approximately 3 years of age.

Measurements — Chest 24 inches, length from lower edge to back of neck 12 inches, sleeves — width 9 3/4 inches.

Gauge: Pattern st — 11 sts = 1 inch, 7 rows = 1 inch

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Ch 134.

Row 1 — right side — 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st, * ch 5, skip 3 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from *, end last repeat 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.

Row 2 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 3, 1 sc in center st of ch 5, ch 3, 1 sc in center st of next 3 sc *; repeat between *’s, end last repeat 1 sc in last sc.

Row 3 — Ch 5, turn, * 1 sc under ch 3, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc under next ch 3, ch 5, skip next sc *; repeat between *’s, end ch 2 instead of ch 5, 1 dc in last sc.

Row 4 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in dc, ch 3, 1 sc in center st of 3 sc; repeat between *’s of row 2, end ch 3, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st of turning ch.

Row 5 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, 1 sc under ch 3, ch 5, skip next sc, repeat between *’s of row 3, end 1 sc under last ch 3, 1 sc in last sc; 22 pats.

Repeat last 4 rows until 7 1/2 ins. from beginning, end with row 3.

Fasten off; turn.

Armholes

Leave off 1 pat. each side as follows: With loop on hook, 1 sc in center of first ch 5 loop, ch 3, 1 sc in center st of 3 sc, repeat between *’s of row 2, end 1 sc in center or first ch 5 loop from end (not turning ch); 20 pats.

First Dec. Row — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc under first ch 3, ch 5, skip 1 sc; repeat between *’s of row 3, end ch 5, 1 sc in last sc of row below.

2nd Dec. Row — Ch 1, turn, slip st to center of first ch 5, ch 1, 1 sc in same st, ch 3, 1 sc in center st of 3 sc, repeat between *’s of row 2, end ch 3, 1 sc in center st of last ch 5.

Repeat last 2 rows once; 18 pats.

Work 1 row as for row 5.

Back Opening

Work 9 pats., end at center back, ch 1, turn. Work even on 9 pats, until 4 1/2 ins. above underarm. Fasten off. Join with sc in sc at center back; finish other side to correspond.

FRONT

Work same as back until 2 1/2 ins. above underarm; 18 pats., end with row 3.

Neck Shaping

Work 6 pats., end 1 sc in center of ch 5, ch 1, turn; dec. 1 pat. at neck edge as on arm-hole shaping; 5 pats. Work even until 4 1/2 ins. above underarm. Fasten off.

Work other side to correspond leaving 6 pats, free at center front for neck.

SLEEVES

Ch 64. Row 1—1 sc in 2nd and each st on ch; 63 sc.

Row 2 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. Repeat last row 3 times. Inc. row—Ch 1, turn, work 2 sc in every 6th st 10 times, finish row; 73 sts.

PATTERN

Row 1 — right side — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 2 sts, * ch 5, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from *, end last repeat 1 sc in each of last 2 sts; 18 pats. Work pat. as on back for 2 1/2 ins., end with row 4.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of armhole shaping of back twice; 16 pats.

Work even until 3 ins. above first row of shaping, end with row 4.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of armhole shaping 4 times; 12 pats. Fasten off.

COLLAR

Ch 55 for half of collar, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st, * ch 5, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts *; repeat between *’s once; t ch 3, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from t 10 times; repeat between *’s twice, end last repeat 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.

Row 2 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 3, 1 sc in center st of ch, ch 3, 1 sc in center st of next 3 sc *; repeat between *’s, end 1 sc in last sc. Work pat. until 10 rows, end with row 2. Fasten off.

Join with sc on foundation ch, * ch 5, 1 slip st in 4th st from hook (a picot), skip 1 row, 1 sc in end of next row *; repeat between *’s on side edge 4 times, end at corner; t ch 5, slip st in 4th st from hook, ch 2, 1 sc under ch 3, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc under next ch 3; repeat from t to next corner; repeat between *’s on other short side. Fasten off. Make 2.

FINISHING

Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Working from right side, work 1 row sc around back opening and neck edge, holding neck edge in to 12% ins. Ch 1, turn, work 1 row sc, working 4 buttonloops on right back edge. Fasten off.

Sew lower edge of underlap. Sew foundation ch of half of collar to neck edge from center front to back opening. Sew other half to correspond. Work beading for elastic or tape on lower edge of blouse. Steam lightly.
