How to Crochet a Butterfly Sacque
REQUIRED MATERIALS

A few yards of Contrasting Color for edging
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 5

Gauge: 8 hdc = l inch, 6 rows = l inch
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 74 loosely for neck edge.
Row 1 — right side — Skip first 2 sts from hook, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * to end; 96 hdc.
Row 2 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each st (ch 2 does not count as a st).
Row 3 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each of first 8 sts, * 2 hdc in next st (1 inc.), 1 hdc in next st (mark last st as center st of 1 inc. group and carry up marker), 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 8 sts; repeat from * 7 times (8 groups of 1 st increased each side of marked center st); 112 sts.
Row 4 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each st.
Row 5 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each of first 9 sts, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 10 sts; repeat from *, end last repeat 9 hdc; 128 sts.
Continue to inc. 16 sts every 2nd row as before, (having 1 st more before first and after last inc. group, and 2 sts more between groups after each successive inc. row) until there are 27 rows from beginning; 304 sts.
Butterfly Sacque – Right Front
Wrong Side — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each of first 48 sts.
Row 2 — Ch 2, turn, work as before, increasing each side of marked st.
Row 3 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in each st.
Repeat last 2 rows with only one inc. group, until 19 short rows; 66 sts, end on wrong side. Fasten off.
Butterfly Sacque – Right Sleeve
With loop on hook, working from wrong side, 1 hdc in st next to last st of first row of right front, 1 hdc in each of next 59 sts; 60 sts. Ch 2, turn, work as before with 2 inc. groups, until there are 13 short rows; 84 sts, end on wrong side. Fasten off.
Butterfly Sacque – Back
With loop on hook, working from wrong side, 1 hdc in st next to last st of first row of right sleeve, 1 hdc in each of next 87 sts; 88 sts.
Work as before with 2 inc. groups until same number of rows as right front; 124 sts. Fasten off.
Work left sleeve and left front to correspond to right side. Do not break yarn at end of last row of left front.
Ch 1, turn, working from right side, work 1 row sc around all edges, keeping work flat and increasing at corners; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Butterfly Sacque Edging
With contrasting color, working from right side, 1 sc in first st of last row, * ch 2, draw up a loop in same st as last st, skip 1 st, draw up a loop in next st, yo and through 3 loops; repeat from * to end, ch 2, join with slip st in first st. Fasten off.
Butterfly Sacque – Finishing
Steam lightly. Fold double and tack underarm seams of sleeves 1 1/2 ins. from lower edge, and side seams of fronts and back 2 ins. from lower edge. Trim as illustrated, using edging for buttonloops.
