REQUIRED MATERIALS
J. & P. COATS or CLARK’S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Size 5, 2 balls each of 2 colors, referred to in directions as A and B.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
BODY
With color B, ch 2.
1st Rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds.
2nd Rnd: 2 sc in each st around (14 sts).
3rd Rnd: * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, Repeat from * around (21 sts).
4th Rnd: * Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around (28 sts).
Continue thus, increasing 7 sts on each rnd until piece measures 3 inches in diameter. Work 12 rnds straight without increasing.
Next Rnd: Dec 7 sts evenly around—to dec, work off 2 sc us 1 sc.
Repeat last rnd until 28 sts remain.
Stuff this piece firmly with cotton. Then repeat last rnd until opening is entirely closed. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch end.
HEAD
Attach color A in last st of Body, ch 3 and work as for Body until piece measures 2 inches in diameter.
Work 8 rnds straight. Then dec, stuff and finish same as Body. Fasten off. Thread needle with 6-inch end and make joining of Body and Head more secure. Darn in remainder of end and fasten off.
LEG
1st Ball: With color B, ch 2. Work as for Body until there are 28 sts on rnd. Work 4 rnds straight. Dec 7 sts evenly on next rnd. Stuff with cotton and continue decreasing until opening is closed. Fasten off B, leaving a 6-inch end.
2nd Ball: Attach A in last st, ch 3 and work as for Body until there are 28 sts. Finish as for 1st ball. Fasten off, leaving an end.
3rd and 4th Balls: Attaching thread to last st of last ball, work 3rd ball with color B and 4th ball with color A.
Make another Leg same as this. Secure joinings between balls and sew Legs in place on to Body.
ARMS
Work as for Legs, having 1st ball of color A, 2nd of color B and 3rd of color A. Secure joinings between balls and sew Arms in place. With color B embroider features on Head, using back stitch.
CORD
Cut 4 strands of color B each 2 yards long. Twist tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Knot loose ends and trim. Tie ends of Cord in a bow, leaving a large-loop between. Sew bow securely to top of Head.
