3 Yards Ribbon, 1/2 Inch Wide

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Starting at center of Back, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st Rnd: Ch 1, 15 sc in ring. Sl st in 1st sc made.

2nd Rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 7, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in 1st sc made (15 loops).

3rd, 4th and 5th Rnds: * Ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in next tr.

6th Rnd: Same as last rnd, only ending with ch 7, sl st in tr below.

7th Rnd: Sl st in next loop, ch 3 (to count as 1 dc), 7 dc in same loop, 8 dc in each loop around. Join with sl st in top st of first ch-3 (120 dc).

8th Rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join.

9th Rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 7, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in 1st sc made (40 loops).

10th Rnd: Same as last rnd, only ending with ch 7, sl st in tr below.

11th Rnd: Sl st in next loop, ch 3, 3 dc in same loop, 4 dc in each loop around. Join (160 dc).

12th Rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join (piece measures 5 inches in diameter).

Now work front of Cap back and forth in rows as follows:

1st Row: Ch 3, dc in next 126 dc (127 sts). Ch 5, turn.

2nd Row: * Skip 2 dc, in next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 5, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn.

3rd Row: * In next ch-3 sp, make 6 dc with ch 1 between (shell made), ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with 6 dc with ch 1 between in last ch-3 sp. Ch 5, turn.

4th Row: * In center ch-1 sp of next shell make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 5, sc in ch-1 sp between shells, ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending with dc, ch 3 and dc in center ch-1 sp of last shell. Ch 5, turn.

Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows alternately until front of Cap measures 4 inches, ending with the 4th row.

Last Row: In each ch-3 sp make 5 tr with a p between—to make a p, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook. Do not fasten off, but work along neck edge as follows: * Ch 5, sc in next turning ch. Repeat from * across side edge of front. Then ch 5, skip 3 dc, sl st in each dc to within last 3 dc, ch 5 and work across second side edge of front to correspond with first. Fasten off.

Finishing

Cut a 15-inch piece of ribbon and pass it in and out of openings between shells, about 1 inch in from front edge of this cute baby bonnet. Sew ends in place.

Cut two 1/2-yard lengths for ties. Cut remaining ribbon in half and make 2 rosettes. Sew ties and rosettes to sides of this cute baby bonnet.
