REQUIRED MATERIALS

The Famous “PURITAN” STAR SPANGLED CROCHET COTTON, Article 40
5 Balls Black & Gold Spangle or Color of Your Choice
Steel Crochet Hook No. 5
1 Pair of Inner Soles

NOTE(s) FOR THIS PATTERN FOR SLIPPERS

Directions in this pattern for slippers are given for the small size – medium and large sizes are given in parenthesis.

The soles for this pattern for slippers are worked with single strand of thread. Upper part of slipper is worked with double strand of thread.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Pattern for Slippers – Soles

Ch 59 (65, 71), 3 dc in 4th st from hook, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 52 (58, 64) sts, 2 dc in next st, 3 dc in last st, working on other side of ch, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 52 (58, 64) sts, 2 dc in next st, join.

2nd Row – Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, 2 dc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 52 (58, 64) sts, 2 dc in each of the next 7 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 52 (58, 64) sts, 2 dc in next st, join.

3rd Row – Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, 2 dc in each of the next 6 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 27 (30, 33) sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 13 (16, 19) sts, (sdc: thread over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 dc in each of the next 17 sts, 2 dc in each of the next 11 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 17 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 13 (16, 19) sts, 1 dc in each of the next 27 (30, 33) sts, join.

4th Row – Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, * 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * 5 times, 1 dc in each of the next 28 {31, 34) sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 17 (20, 23) sts, 1 dc in each of the next 15 sts, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * 9 times, 1 dc in each of the next 15 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 17 (20, 23) sts, 1 dc in each remaining st, join.

5th Row – Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * 5 times, 1 dc in each of the next 31 (34, 37) sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 94 (97, 100) sts, 1 dc in each remaining st, join.

6th Row – Ch 1 and work 1 st in each st, cut thread.

Work another section in same manner. Place inner sole between the 2 sections and sew together.

Pattern for Slippers – Vamp

With double strand of thread, ch 16 (19, 22), sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, (right side) ch 2, turn.

2nd Row – Work 2 sdc in 1st sc, 1 sdc in each remaining sc, 2 sdc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row – 2 sc in 1st sdc, 1 sc in each remaining sdc, 2 sc in last sdc, ch 2, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows 3 times.

10th Row – Work even in sdc, ch 1, turn.

11th Row – Work even in sc, ch 2. turn.

Repeat last 2 rows twice, cut thread.

Band for Slipper Instep

Ch 39 (42, 45), and work 1st 5 rows same as vamp, then work next 8 rows same as 10th and 11th rows of vamp, cut thread.

Pattern for Slippers – Ankle Strap

Ch 5, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, ch 2, turn.

2nd Row – 1 sdc in each sc, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row – 1 sc in each sdc, ch 2, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until strap measures 6 inches or length desired.

Sew vamp to sole leaving 18 sts free at toe.

Sew band for instep in position starting about 1 inch from vamp.

Sew ankle strap to instep band.
