REQUIRED MATERIALS

Coats & Clark’s O.N.T. “Speed-Cro-Sheen” Mercerized Cotton, Art. C.44: 3 balls of No. 1 White

J & P Coats “Knit-Cro-Sheen” Metallic, Art. A.64: 5 balls of No. M.46-A Mid Rose

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero)

1/4 yard of pink felt for lining.

NOTE(S)

Use 1 strand of “Speed-Cro-Sheen” and a double strand of “Knit-Cro-Sheen” Metallic throughout.

Gauge: 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

The Hat

Starting at center with white, ch 2.

1st Rnd – 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. Hereafter pick up back loop only.

2nd Rnd – 2 sc in each sc around. Join. Drop white.

3rd Rnd – Attach mid rose, 2 sc in first sc (1 sc increased), * ch 5, sl st in last sc made (picot), sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. Drop mid rose.

4th and 5th Rnds – Pick up white, sc in each sc, increasing 6 sc evenly on each rnd. Join. Drop white at end of 5th rnd.

6th Rnd – Pick up Mid Rose, 2 sc in first sc, * sc in next sc, picot, sc in next 3 sc, picot, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. Drop mid rose.

7th and 8th Rnds – Repeat 4th and 5th rnds.

9th Rnd – Work as for 6th rnd, increasing 6 sc evenly around and making a picot after every 3rd sc. Continue to work in pattern until piece measures 6 inches in diameter, then work without increasing until piece measures 5 1/2 inches from center of crown, endign with 2 white rows. Break off.
