Crochet a Matching Bag, Hat, and Collar
REQUIRED MATERIALS
COATS AND CLARK’S O.N.T. “SPEED-CRO-SHEEN” MERCERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 5 balls of No. 76-A Aqua
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero)
Tiny jet beads
Hook and eye
3 snap fasteners
NOTE(s)
Gauge: 5 1/2 sc make 1 inch; 13 rows or rnds make 2 inches.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Crocheting the Hat
Make a chain long enough to reach around head, having an even number of chains. Join with sl st. (This is center back.)
1st rnd: Sc in each ch around.
2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around.
Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 3 1/2 inches deep.
Next rnd: Sc in each sc, decreasing 10 sc evenly around – to dc 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc.
Following rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd.
Repeat the last 2 rnds 2 more times.
Join at center back. Fold piece in hall and mark each side with a pin. Now work in short rows as follows:
1st row: Attach thread to first pin marker, sc in each sc across to within 2nd pin marker, break off.
2nd row: Attach thread to next sc on crown preceding first sc on last row, sc in each sc across, decreasing over previous decreases, ending with sc in next sc on down, break off.
3rd row: Attach thread to next sc on crown preceding first sc on last row, sc in each sc across, ending with sc in next sc on crown on same row, break off.
4th row: Attach thread to next sc on crown preceding first sc on last row, sc in each sc across, decreasing over previous decreases (being careful to have a number of sc divisible by four on the entire rnd), ending with sc in next sc on crown. Break off.
Divide the remaining sc into 1 equal parts (marking for points).
1st row: Attach thread to first marker, st in each sc across to within next marker. Break off.
2nd row: Attach thread to first sc on previous row, sc in first sc, dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 8 sc, dec 1 sc, sc in last sc, break off.
Repeat last row until 3 sc remain.
Next row: Attach thread, work off 3 sc as 1 sc. Break off.
Complete other three points in same manner, Attach thread to bottom of hat, sc at base of each sc on 2nd rnd. Join and break off.
Press through a damp cloth. Sew 2 rows of beads in place around points at top.
Crocheting the Collar
Ch 76 to measure 14 1/2 inches.
1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from honk, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc (inc: made), sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 39 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
4th row: Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 11 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 39 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 11 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc. Ch 1, turn.
5th row: Repeal 3rd row.
6th row: Sc in next 14 sc (2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 26 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice: sc in next 14 sc. Ch 1, turn.
7th row: Repeat 3rd row.
8th row: Skip first sc, sc in next 7 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc, sl st in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
9th row: Skip sl st, sc in each sc across, sl st in ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
10th row: Skip sl st, sc in next 43 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each sc across, sl st in ch-1. Ch 1, turn.
11th row: Repeat 9th row.
12th row: Skip sl st, sc in next 21 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 21 sc, sl st in last ch-l. Ch 1, turn.
13th row: Repeal 9th row. Break off.
Collar Edging
1st row: Attach thread to first ch at opposite side of starting chain, sc in same place, ch 3, skip first, 2nd, and 3rd rows at side edge, sc at side edge of 4th row. (ch 3, skip 2 rows, sc at side edge of next row) 3 times: * ch 3, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across last row of collar.
Complete other side edge to correspond. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Make 5 sc in each ch-3 loop. Break off. Press through a damp cloth. Sew two rows of beads along outer edge of each scallop on collar. Sew hook and eye in place.
Crocheting the Bag
Ch 43 to measure 8 1/4 inches.
1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 12 inches. Break off.
Bag Fastener
Ch 2.
1st row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
4th row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat 3rd row until piece measure s 2 3/4 inches long.
Next row: Dec-1 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, dec 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Following row: Dec 1 sc, sc in next sc, dec 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Last row: Work off 3 sc as 1 sc. Break off.
Fold up 5 inches of bag to form pocket. Sew1 up side seams. Fold remaining 2 inches over top of Bag for flap. Sew one snap fastener at each corner of flap. Sew beads on Fastener. Sew top half in place on flap. Sew snap fastener in place.
