Vintage Roll Brim Bag

REQUIRED MATERIALS

J & P Coats “Knit-Cro-Sheen” Metallic, Art. A.64:
7 balls of No. M61-D Nu-Ecru.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 6 and No. 2/0 (double zero)
1/4 yard of beige felt
8 bone rings
Cotton batting

NOTE(S)

Gauge: 4 dc rnds makes 1 1/4 inches.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

The Bag

Starting at bottom with a double strand of thread and No. 2/0 hook, ch 2.

1st Rnd – 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd Rnd – 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd Rnd – * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

4th Rnd – * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around.

5th to 16th Rnds – Sc in each sc, increasing 7 sc evenly on each rnd. Break off at end of 16th rnd (112 sc).

The Side Piece

1st Rnd – Attach a single strand to back loop of any sc, using No. 6 hook sc in same place, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (168 sc).

2nd Rnd – Sc in each sc, increasing 8 sc evenly around (176sc).

3rd to 8th Rnds – Sc in each sc around.

9th Rnd – Sl st in next sc, ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, * skip 3 sc, dc in next 2 sc, (ch 1, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc) twice; ch 1, skip 1 sc, dc in next 2 sc, skip 3 sc, shell in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in same place as first 2 dc, half dc in top of ch-3.

10th Rnd – Ch 3, 2 dc in sp of shell, * skip 3 dc of shell, dc in next 2 dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice; ch 1, dc in next 2 dc, shell over next shell. Repeat from * around. Join.

11th to 28th Rnds – Repeat 10th rnd.

29th Rnd – Sc in loop just formed, * ch 2, skip 3 dc of shell, dc in next 2 dc. (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice; ch 1, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, sc in sp of next shell. Repeat from * around. Join.

30th Rnd – Sc in each ch and in each st around.

31st to 37th Rnds – Sc in each sc around.

At the end of the 37th rnd, join and break off.

Sc closely around each bone ring, join and break off. Sew bone rings around top of bag inside band, spacing evenly apart.

The Cord

Starting at one end, ch 6. Join.

1st Rnd – Sc in each ch around.

2nd Rnd – Working so right side of sc will be inside, sc in back loop of each sc around.

Repeat 2nd rnd until cord is 54 inches long. Break off.

Lace cord twice through rings. Sew narrow ends together. Cut a piece of cardboard to fit bottom, cover with felt and sew in place.
