6 – 50 Yard Balls Red; 1 – 50 Yard Ball Black
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7
Lady Bug Potholder – Front
With Red, ch 33.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 2 sc on ch (2 incs. made), sc in each sc across, ch 3, turn.
Repeat 2nd row 6 more times, ch 4, turn.
Row 9: 3 sc on ch, sc in each sc across, ch 4, turn.
Repeat row 9 twice, ch 1, turn.
Work 2 rows even, ch 2, turn.
Row 14: 1 sc on ch, sc in each sc across, ch 2, turn.
Next 15 Rows: Repeat row 14.
Next 21 Rows: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 51: Dec. 1 sc at beg. and end of row.
Work 3 rows even.
Repeat last 4 rows twice.
Row 63: Same as row 51.
Work 2 rows even.
Repeat last 3 rows once.
Row 69: Same as row 51.
Work 1 row even.
Next 11 Rows: Same as row 51.
Row 82: Dec. 2 sts at beg. and end of tow.
Next 4 rows: Repeat last row, break thread.
Using double strand of Black, embroider outline of head and center back, using outline st (2 rows for head and 3 rows for center back).
Embroider eyes and spots as pictured using satin st. Crochet another section for back same as front section. With Red, sc the 2 sections tog. leaving 4″ opening, fill lightly with cotton then close opening.
With right side to you using Black, sl st in each sc around wing section, break thread. With Red, cover small ring with sc and attach to back of head.
