Rose Blanket
REQUIRED MATERIALS
BEAR BRAND or BUCILLA 4-fold Zephyr Germantown:
25 balls Fawn No. 349, 18 balls Champagne No. 322, 4 balls Turquoise No. 312, 2 balls Hunter Green No. 985, 1 ball each of Pink Nos. 203, 204, 206, and Maize No. 358.
1 BUCILLA Celluloid Crochet Hook No. 3.
NOTE(s)
The approximate final size of this crochet afghan is 45″ x 72″.
Each square of this crochet rose blanket should measure 3 1/2 inches.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Rose Squares
With maize No. 358, ch 3, join with a slip st, 8 s c in ring, 1 slip st in first s c made, break off and draw end through loop on hook.
2nd Round – With pink 206, make 4 d c in any s c of first round, taking up both threads of st, drop loop now on hook, insert hook in top st of first d c, insert it also in dropped loop and draw this loop through st now on hook, * ch 2, skip next s c in first round, 4 d c in next st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top st of the first d c of group just made and draw the dropped loop through the st on hook, ch 2, 4 d c in same maize st as last group of 4 d c, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of first d c in group just made and draw dropped loop through st on hook; repeat from * around, ending with 4 d c in same maize st as the first 4 d c of round, drop loop from hook, draw it through top st of first d c in group just made, ch 2, join with a slip st in top of first “puff” st and fasten off (8 pull sts in round).
3rd Round – With pink 204, make 3 d c in space between first and last puff st in row below, * 3 d c in next space, 6 d c in next space; repeat from * twice; 3 d c in next space, 3 d c in same space as first 3 d c of round; join and fasten of.
4th Round – With pink 203, make 3 d c between 3rd and 4th d c of any group of 6 d c below, * 3 d c in next space between groups, 3 d c in next space, 6 d c in center of next 6 d c; repeat from * around, ending with 3 d c in same place as the first 3 d c of round; join and fasten off.
5th Round – With green 985, make 3 d c between 3rd and 4th d c (center) of any group of 6 d c below, * 3 d c in each of the next 3 spaces, 6 d c in center of next group of 6 d c; repeat from * around, ending with 3 d c in same place as the 3 d c at beginning of round; join and fasten off.
Make 15 of these rose squares.
Champagne and Blue Squares
With turquoise No. 312, ch 3, join with a slip st, 8 s c in ring, join with a slip st 10 first s c.
2nd Round – Ch 3 (to be counted as 1 d c), 2 d c in same st as ch 3, * skip 1 st, 6 d c in next st: repeat from * twice, skip 1 st, 3 d c in same st as the first 3 d c; join and fasten off.
3rd Round – With champagne 322, work 3 d c in center of any 6 d c in row below, * 3 d c in next space, 6 d c in center of next 6 d c; repeal from * around, ending with 3 d c in same place as the 3 d c at beginning of round.
4th and 5th Rounds – Ch 3 and, using champagne only, follow directions for 4th and 5th rounds of rose square.
Make 120 of these champagne-blue squares.
Fawn Squares
Using fawn No. 349 only, follow directions for the champagne-blue squares.
Make 138 fawn squares.
Joining
Sew squares together, arranging them as shown in illustration. Always place sides of squares together and sew from wrong side with an overhand stitch, taking up back (top) thread only of each st in last row of squares. Be careful that seams do not bind, and that corners meet exactly.
Rose Blanket Border
With champagne No. 322 and working from wrong side, make 1 s c in first st of a corner shell, ch 2, 2 d c in same st as the s c just made, skip 1 st, 1 s c in next st. ch 2. 2 d c in same st as the s c just made, * 1 s c in next st, ch 2, 2 d c in same st as last s c, skip 2 sts; repeal from * to next corner (6 shells to each square); continue in this way around the entire blanket, skipping only 1 st between shells at corners; join at end of round and fasten off.
2nd Round – Turn, with fawn 349, * make 1 s c in first space, ch 2, 2 d c in same space ; repeat from * around and fasten off.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Squares
Follow directions for squares in above Rose Blanket pattern. Make 2 rose squares, 16 champagne-blue squares, and 32 fawn squares. Arrange squares as shown in illustration; sew them together, following directions above for sewing the rose blanket. Make 2 duplicate pieces, one for front and one for back of pillow. Join them on 3 sides with a row of s c, taking up both threads of top sts, continue the s c row on 4th side of front part only, then, without turning, work an edging around the entire front part.
Edging
Follow directions for 1st row of border on rose blanket.
