Crochet Cat Pattern

REQUIRED MATERIALS

CHADWICK’S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E.232: 3 skeins (1 oz. “Tangle-Proof” Pull-Out Skeins) of Yellow and 1 skein of White
A few yards each of Mid Rose and Black “Knit-Cro-Sheen”
Clark’s O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 6
Teething Ring Rattle
1 yard of blue grosgrain ribbon, 1 1/2 inches wide
Scraps of green and rose felt
Cotton batting for stuffing

Gauge: 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Crochet Cat – Body

Starting at neck with Yellow, ch 2.

1st Rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd Rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd Rnd: * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

4th to 10th Rnds: Inc 6 sc evenly on each rnd. Work without increasing until piece measures 6 inches in all.

Dec 7 sc evenly on each of next 6 rnds—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc.

Join and break off.

Stuff crochet cat Body firmly with cotton. Sew up opening.

Crochet Cat – Head

Starting at front with White, ch 6.

1st Rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, sc in each ch across.

2nd Rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd Rnd: Inc 6 sc evenly around.

Break off. Attach Yellow to last sc made and inc 6 sc evenly on each rnd until piece measures 4 1/2 inches across the widest part.

Place pin as marker on last rnd. Work without increasing until piece measures 2 inches from last increased rnd. Dec 6 sc evenly around on each rnd until 30 sc remain. Stuff firmly with cotton.

Dec 6 sc on each of next 4 rnds. Sew up opening. Sew Head to Body.

Crochet Cat – Leg (Make 2)

Starting at foot with White, ch 9.

1st Rnd: Work as for 1st rnd of Head.

2nd to 8th Rnds: Sc in each sc around.

Break off. Attach Yellow to last sc made and sc in each sc around for 3 rnds. Inc 3 sc evenly around on each of next 3 rnds.

Work without increasing until piece measures 5 1/4 inches in all. Dec 6 sc evenly on each of next 2 rnds.

Stuff Leg firmly with cotton and sew up opening. Sew Leg to Body. Fold White section up to form foot and sew in place.

Crochet Cat – Arm (Make 2)

Work exactly as for Leg until 8 rnds have been completed. Break off.

Attach Yellow and sc in each sc around until piece measures 4 3/4 inches in all. Break off.

Stuff firmly with cotton, sew across top opening. Sew to crochet cat Body.

Crochet Cat – Ear (Make 2)

Starting at point with White, ch 2.

1st Row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

4th Row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

5th to 8th Rows: Repeat last 2 rows alternately 2 more times.

9th and 10th Rows: Repeat 3rd row. Break off.

Make another piece the same way, using Yellow. Sew White and Yellow pieces together and sew to the crochet cat Head.

Toy Cat – Tail

Starting at tip with White ch 2.

1st Rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd Rnd: Inc 3 sc evenly around.

3rd and 4th Rnds: Sc in each sc around. Break off.

5th to 10th Rnds: Attach Yellow and sc in each sc around.

Next Rnd: Inc 3 sc evenly around.

Work without increasing until piece measures 6 inches in all.

Stuff firmly and sew in place.

With Mid Rose “Knit-Cro-Sheen,” embroider nose, mouth, pads of feet, and arms, as illustrated. With Black embroider whiskers. With White embroider background for eyes.

Cut 2 oval pieces of green felt 3/4 inch long for eyes. Sew in place with Black French knots. Cut a piece of rose felt 1 inch long. Sew in place for tongue. Tie ribbon around neck in a bow. Sew teething ring to arm.
