Hiawatha Wedge Soles No. 6220
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1

This pair of evening sandals can be crocheted in sizes small, medium, and large. The instructions in this pattern are for small size. Changes for medium and large sizes are in parentheses.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Evening Sandals – Front
Ch 14 (16, 16).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 5 (6, 6) ch, 3 sc in next (center) ch, sc in each of next 6 (7, 7) ch. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Dc in each of next 7 (8, 8) sts, 3 dc in center st, dc in each of last 7 (8, 8) sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in each st to center, 3 sc in center st, sc in each st to end. Ch 2, turn.
Row 4: Dc in each st to center, 3 dc in center st, dc in each st to end. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 27 (29, 33) sts, Ch 2, turn.
Evening Sandals – Shape Vamp
Row 1: Dc in each of next 13 (14, 16) sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Skip first st, sc in next st (dec. made), sc in each remaining st to end. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Dc in each st. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until 9 (9, 10) sts remain, ending with dc row. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Skip first st, sc in each st to last 2 sts, skip next st, sc in last st. Ch 2, turn.
Following Row: Skip first st, dc in each st to last 2 sts, skip next st, dc in last st.
Repeat last 2 rows until 3 (3, 4) sts remain, ending with sc row. Fasten off.
Skip center st of Vamp, join Metallic Elastic in next st, ch 2.
Row 1: Dc at base of ch-2, dc in each st to end. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each st to last 2 sts, skip next st, sc in last st. Work to correspond to first half of Vamp.
Back of Evening Sandals
Ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 3 ch (4 sc). Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in first st, dc in each remaining st to end. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in each st, ending with 2 sc in last st. Ch 2, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 21 sts, ending at straight edge (bottom). Work 2 rows even. Ch 1, turn. Dec. as follows:
Row 1: Sc in each st to last 2 sts, skip next st, sc in last st. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Thread over, draw up a lp in first st, over and thru 2 lps, over, draw up lp in next st, (over and thru 2 lps) 3 times (dec. made), dc in each remaining st to end. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until 4 sts remain. Work 1 row sc even. Fasten off.
Strap for Evening Sandal
Make 17″ ch.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch until row is 14 1/2 (15, 15 1/2)”. Cut off remaining ch. Ch 1, turn.
Rnd 2: Sc all around, increasing at corners. Sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Finishing these Evening Sandals
Steam all pieces. Sew Front and Back pieces to sole, leaving 1/2″ space at sides between front and back.
Sew one end of strap in side space, wrap strap around ankle as pictured, then sew other end in other side space. Tack Front and Back pieces to sides of Strap. Sew center of Strap to top of Back.
