Sparkling Bag Pattern – Free Crochet Bag Pattern

Vintage Sparkling Bag

REQUIRED MATERIALS

J & P Coats “Knit-Cro-Sheen” Metallic, Art A. 64: 9 balls of No. M.1 White and 1 ball of No. M.126 Spanish Red, or any color combination of your choice.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook: No. 2/0 (double zero)

1/2 yard red felt for lining
1 cuff link for fastener
6 packages of Walco gold drop beads, Style No. 7368
2 packages of tiny gold beads, Style No. 7303

NOTE(S)

Use thread double throughout.

Gauge: 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch.

There is also a pattern for a matching cloche. The ‘required materials’ are what is required to make BOTH the bag and the matching cloche.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

The Bag

Starting at bottom, ch 21 to measure 4 inches.

1st Rnd – 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 5 sc in last ch: working along opposite side os starting chain, sc in each ch across.

2nd Rnd – Sc in each sc around, increasing 3 sc evenly across each rounded end.

Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 3 x 7 inches.

The Side Piece

1st Rnd – Picking up back loop only, make sc in each sc around.

2nd Rnd – Picking up both loops, sc in each sc around. Repeat 2nd rnd until side pieve measures 7 1/2 inches, sl st in next sc. Break off.

The Flap

Place a pin as marker on each side of bag.

1st Row – With right side of last rnd facing, attach thread to first sc marked, sc in each sc across, ending with sl st in last sc marked. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row – Work off first 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased), sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, dec 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd and 4th Rows – Sc in each sc across, Ch 1, turn.

5th to 13th Rows – Repeat 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rows respectively 3 more times.

14th and 15th Rows – Sl st in first 3 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 3 sc, sl st in next sc. Turn. Break off at end of 15th row.

16th Row – With wrong side of flap facing, mark of 3 sc at center of flap, then attach thread to same place as sl st on first row, sc closely around flap to first marked sc, ch 3, skip 3 sc (buttonhole), sc around remainder of flap. Break off and turn.

17th Row – Attach 3 strands of spanish red to first sc, sc in each sc and in each ch around. Turn. Sl st in each sc. Break off.

The Handle

Starting at one end, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st Rnd – Sc in each ch around.

2nd Rnd – Sc in each sc around.

Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 15 inches. Break off.

Line bag with felt. Cut a piece of cardboard 1/4 inch smaller than bottom of bag. Cover with felt and sew in place. Sew handle in place. Pass cuff link through bag and lining for button. Cut a small hole in lining to correspond with buttonhole on flap.

Sew beads around flap same as for matching sparkling cloche
