REQUIRED MATERIALS
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “STAR” FAST HEAVY CROCHET MERCERIZED COTTON, Article 140
4 Balls Forest Green
5 Balls White or colors of your choice
Steel Crochet Hook No. 4
1 Pair Knitting Slicks or Handles
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
With Green ch 136, to measure about 23 1/2 inches, 2 d c in 4th st from hook, skip 2 sts of ch, s c in next st, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 sts of ch, s c in next st (shell), repeat from * to end of eh (44 shells), ch 3, turn.
2nd Row – 2 d c in 1st st, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, repeat from * across row, drop Green, attach White (when changing color always complete last half of last st worked with next color), ch 3, turn.
3rd Row – 2 d c in 1st st, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, repeat from to end of row, ch 3, turn.
4th Row – 2 d c in 1st st, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.
5th Row – Same as 3rd row.
6th Row – Same as 4th row, drop White, pick up Green.
7th Row – 2 d c in 1st st, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, s c in ch 2 loop of next shell, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.
8th Row – Same as 2nd row.
Repeat from the 3rd row through the 8th row 9 times, do not attach White at end of last row, cut thread.
Fold work in half, sew sides together with “STAR” FAST HEAVY CROCHET starting at fold until 2 inches from top.
With right side of work toward you attach Green in right hand corner at top of bag and work a row of s c across top to measure about 12 1/2 inches if knitting sticks are used. If handles are used, top should measure about 10 1/2 inches, ch 1, turn.
Next Row – 1 s c in each s c, turn.
Next Row – Working over stick work 1 s c in each s c, cut thread. Work other top in same manner.
The Handles
If knitting sticks are used, with Green, crochet a chain 22 inches long, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, turn.
Next 6 Rows – Ch 1, 1 s c in each s c, cut thread at end of last row leaving a length for sewing. Sew long edges together. Work another handle in same manner. Sew to inside of bag placing them as illustrated starting about 1 inch down from top.
