17 Skeins Black and
“DAWN” KNITTING WORSTED
2 ozs. each Kelly Green, Golf Green, Flame, Scarlet and Cardinal for Embroidery
Steel Crochet Hook No. 00
Tapestry needle
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
With Black ch 142, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd row until 99 rows have been worked.
Without cutting yarn work a row of s c around entire rug working 3 s c in each corner st, join with a sl st.
Next Row. Ch 3, * yarn over hook, insert in same st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time, ** ch 1, skip 1 s c, cluster st in next st (cluster st: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull through and work off 2 loops, * yarn over hook, insert in same space, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), repeat from ** all around working 1 cluster st in each of the 3 s c at each corner with ch 1 between each cluster st, join.
Next Row. Ch 1, * s c in top of next cluster st, s c in next ch 1, repeat from * all around working 3 s c in center st at each corner, cut yarn.
All embroidery is done in cross sts.
Embroider the double rose in center of rug following the double rose chart. With roses on chart facing upward and starting at arrow work 1st st of leaf in the 70th st from right hand side and the 28th row from lower edge.
The single rose is embroidered in right hand corner at lower edge of rug working from the dark line of double rose chart. Turn chart so leaves are at lower edge, then start 1st st of leaf in 12th st from right hand side and 4th row from lower edge.
Using small chart start stem at arrow in 5th st from left hand side and 2nd row from lower edge.
Turn rug opposite way and embroider both corners to correspond.
Fringe
Wind Black over a 4 1/2 inch cardboard. Cut one end. Using 1 strand, double in half and knot through each st all around.
