STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Chain 2.

1st Row – Make 6 sc in 1st ch.

2nd Row – Working round and round and using both loops at top of stitch, make 1 sc in 1st sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around row.

3rd Row – Make 2 sc in every 3rd sc.

4th Row – Make 2 sc in every 4th sc.

Continue this way, making 1 sc more between the widenings in each successive row until bottom of basket measures 1 1/2 inches across or is size desired.

Next Row – Ch 3, 1 dc in last sc, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around row, join.

Next Row – Ch 5, 2 dc in 1st space, * ch 2, 2 dc in next space. Repeat from * ending with 1 dc in last space, join in 3d ch.

Next Row – Ch 3, 1 dc in last space, * ch 2, 2 dc in next space. Repeat from * around row, join.

Repeat the last 2 rows once more (or until basket is depth desired) making 1 ch between the 2 dc in last row.

Finish by making a shell of 5 dc around this 1 ch caught down by a sc around the 2 ch, join. In the last row of the bottom, make 3 dc in each sc between the 2 dc. This makes the bottom wider.
