STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

(Pattern St. multiple of 6 Ch., plus 2).

Row 1 – 1 S.C. in 2nd Ch. from hook, 1 S.C. in each Ch. across, Ch. 1, turn.

Row 2 – 1 S.C. in 1st St., * skip 2 Sts., 3 D.C., 1 Tr.C., 3 D.C. (1 Shell) in next St., skip 2 Sts., 1 S.C. in next St., repeat from * across row, join next color (by drawing yarn through last loop on hook), Ch.3, turn.

Row 3 – 1 Tr.C. in 1st St., * 1 D.C. in each of the next 2 Sts., 1 S.C. in next St., 1 S.C. around the Tr.C. (in front), 1 S.C., in next St., 1 D.C. in each of the next 2 Sts., 1 Tr.C. in next St. (the S.C. of previous row), repeat from * across row, Ch.1, turn.

Row 4 – 1 S.C. in 1st St., * skip 3 Sts., work 1 Shell (3 D.C, 1 Tr.C, 3 D.C.) in center S.C. (the S.C. around the Tr.C. of previous row), skip 3 Sts., 1 S.C. in Tr.C, repeat from * across row, join next color, Ch.3, turn.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 working 2 rows of each color.

Repeat the 30 rows for Pattern 5 times more (about 72 inches), ending with 2 rows of Cocoa Brown (Seal Brown).

Make 5 Strips the same.

Crocheting the Border

With Cocoa Brown (Seal Brown) work 2 rows of S.C. around each Strip. Join Strips with Cocoa Brown (Seal Brown) working 1 row of S.C. on right side of work.

Making the Fringe

Wind Cocoa Brown (Seal Brown) over 5 ineh cardboard, cut loops at one side. Using 2 strands, double and knot fringe in every other St. at each end of Afghan.
