How to Crochet a Child’s Blouse
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Botany Aquatones, 2-oz. Skeins – 2 (3, 3, 3) Skeins Blue
Steel Crochet Hooks No. 0 and No. 1
3 Small Buttons

This child’s blouse can be crocheted in sizes 4, 6, 8, and 10. The instructions in this pattern are for size 4. Changes for sizes 6, 8, and 10 are in parentheses.
Gauge: 13 sts = 2″; 11 rows = 2″.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Back of Blouse
With No. 1 hook, ch 80 (86, 95, 101), Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across, 79 (85, 94, 100) sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 1: 1 sc in first st, * skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in skipped st, 1 sc in next st, repeat from * across end 1 sc in last st, ch 3, turn (this counts as dc st).
Row 2 – (right side): * 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, 1 dc in next sc, repeat from * across end 1 dc in last st, ch 1, turn.
Repeat these 2 rows for pat.
Work even in pat. until piece measures 2″ from start.
Change to #0 hook and continue in pat. until piece measures 9 1/2 (10, 10 1/2, 11)” from start.
Armholes for Blouse
Sl st over first 6 (6, 9, 9) sts, work in pat. to within last 6 (6, 9, 9) sts, turn. Work even in pat. until armholes measure 1 1/2 (2, 2, 2 1/2)” from first shaping.
Back Opening for Child’s Blouse
Work across 33 (36, 38, 41) sts, turn. Work back and forth in pat. on these sts until armholes measure 4 1/2 (5, 5 1/2, 6)” from first shaping, ending at armhole side.
Shoulders for Blouse
Sl st over first 11 (12, 13, 14) sts, work in pat. across remaining sts, turn, work back to armhole side. Sl st over first 11 (12, 13, 14) sts, work in pat. across remaining sts. Break yarn.
Tie in yarn at center back opening. Dec. 1 st for sizes 4 and 6. Work to correspond with other side, reversing all shaping.
Front of Blouse
Work same as for back until armholes measure 3 1/4 (3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2)” from first shaping.
Crocheting the Neck
Work across 25 (27, 29, 31) sts, turn, work back to armhole side. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times. Work even in pat. until armhole measures 4 1/2 (5, 5 1/2, 6)” from first shaping ending at armhole side.
Shoulder for Blouse
Sl st over first 11 (12, 13, 14) sts, work in pat. across remaining sts, turn, work back to armhole. Sl st over remaining 11 (12, 13, 14) sts. Break yarn. Skip center 17 (19, 18, 20) sts. Tie in yarn at other side and work to correspond, reversing shaping. Sew shoulder seams.
Sleeves for the Blouse
With right side to you, tie yarn to underarm and with No. 0 hook, work 60 (64, 68, 72) sts in sc around armhole. Work 1 more row sc inc. 1 st in every other st, except last 4 sts 88 (94, 100, 106) sts. Work even in pat. until sleeve measures 3 (3, 3 1/2, 3 1/2)” from start ending on wrong side.
Next Row: Dec. evenly across row, by working 1 sc in every other st.
Work 2 more rows sc. Break yarn.
Crocheting the Collar
Mark center front. With wrong side to you tie in yarn at this point and with No. 1 hook, work 31 (34, 37, 37) sts in sc around half of neck.
Work even in pat. for 1 1/2″.
Dec. 1 st each end on last row. Work other half to correspond.
Work 1 row sc around collar, working a sl st in center. Work 1 row sc around back opening making 3 lps on right side for buttonholes.
Finishing this Child’s Blouse
Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons in place.
Loop Trim: Baste a colored thread around front of sweater forming a yoke from shoulder to shoulder. With No. 1 hook, make a ch long enough to go around this guide line. Work 1 sc in each ch across.
Next Row: Having yarn over left hand index finger, insert hook in first st, pull yarn from opposite side of finger through the st. Draw lp tightly over the index finger, then sl the lp off the finger. Hold the lp securely with the middle finger while you finish the st with 1 sc.
Repeat this lp st in each ch across. Work 1 row sc. Break yarn. Sew along guide line for yoke. Pull out basting thread.
