STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Free Baby Sweater Pattern – Back – Yoke

Ch 86, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, and in each remaining st of ch; 85 sts.

Row 2 — wrong side — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

Repeat row 2 until there are 34 rows from beginning.

Right Shoulder and Front Border

Row 35 – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 29 sts.

Repeat last row until there are 17 rows for shoulder, end at neck edge. Ch 15 for front of neck, turn, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining ch and st to end; 43 sc. Work even on these 43 sc until there are 30 rows from beginning of neck, end at front edge.

Next Row — Ch 1, turn, work 15 sc for front border. Ch 1, turn, work even on these 15 sts until there are 59 rows for front border. Fasten off.

Left Shoulder and Front Border

Skip center 27 sts of last row of hack, work 1 sc in each remaining st; 29 sts. Work even on these 29 sts until 17 rows from beginning of shoulder. Drop loop from hook, do not fasten off; join separate thread in first st of last row, ch 14 for neck; fasten off; pick up dropped loop and work 1 sc in each st and ch to end; 43 sc. Work even on these 43 sts until there are 31 rows from beginning of neck, end at front edge. Ch 1, turn, work 15 sc.

Ch 1, turn, work even on these 15 sts until there are 58 rows for front border. Fasten off.

Beginning at lower edge, sew underarm seams for 3/4 inch.

Pattern

Row 1 — With loop on hook and right side of work toward you, starting on lower edge of yoke at inner edge of border, work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc (a shell) all in first st, * ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 2 sts, a shell in next st *; repeat between *’s 3 times, ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 shell in first st on back, repeat between *’s 14 times across back, ch 1, 1 dc in first st of other front, ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 shell in next st; repeat between *’s 4 times; 25 shells.

Row 2 — Ch 3, turn, 1 shell in ch 2 sp of first shell, * ch 1, skip last 2 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 shell in ch 2 sp of next shell; repeat from * across.

Repeat last row 3 times.

Work 16 more shell rows with 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each shell.

Work 3 more shell rows with 4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc in each shell; 24 rows of pat. Fasten off. Sew edges of shell pat. to inner edgeof front borders allowing 2 shell pat. rows to about 5 sc rows.

Free Baby Sweater Pattern – Sleeves

Working from right side beginning at underarm seam, work 66 sc around armhole (about 1 sc to each row); join with slip st in first st.

Row 1 — Ch 3, do not turn, 1 dc in same st as slip st, * ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 shell of2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around, end last repeat with 2 dc in same st as first dc, ch 1, join with slip st in top of ch 3; 11 shells.

Row 2 — Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first sp, * ch 1, skip last 2 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 shell in next shell; repeat from* around, end 2 dc in same sp as first dc, ch 1, join. Repeat last row until there are 25 rows.

Cuffs — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sp, * ch 1, skip last 2 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 sc in center of next shell; repeat from * around, end ch 1, skip last 2 de of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in dc, ch 1, join.

Row 2 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sp and each st around; 44 sc, join.

Row 3 — Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 44 sts; join.

Repeat row 3 until there are 7 sc rows. Fasten off. Work other sleeve to correspond.

Free Baby Sweater Pattern – Finishing

Working from right side, join thread on lower edge at inner edge of right front border, work 1 sc in each of next 14 sc, 3 sc in corner st, 1 sc in end of each row to neck, 3 sc in corner st, 83 sc around neck (about 1 sc in each sc and row), 3 sc in corner st, continue sc on left front border to correspond to right front. Fasten off.

Free Baby Sweater Pattern – Beading and Collar

Working from right side, starting at right neck edge, work 1 dc in center st of corner, 1 dc in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * 41 times, 1 dc in center st of corner; 45 dc.

Row 2 — Ch 3, turn, working in back loop on this row only, 1 dc in 2nd dc, * ch 2, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from *, end ch 2, 1 dc in each of last 2 dc.

Row 3 — Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, * ch 1, 1 shell of 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from *, end 1 dc in turning ch.

Row 4 — Work same as row 3 with 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each shell. Fasten off. Steam lightly.

Embroidering the Flowers

With contrasting color, ch 4, join into ring, * ch 6, 1 sc in ring; repeat from * 6 times; 7 petals. Fasten off.

Make 8. Sew 4 on each front as shown.

Embroider 1 yellow french knot in center and 2 green leaves as illustrated. Thread ribbon through beading at neck.
