REQUIRED MATERIALS

CHADWICK’S RED HEART BABY WOOL. 3 Ply, Shrink-and-Stretch Resist Finish, Art. E.275: 6 skeins (3/4 oz. “Tangle-Proof” Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 1 White and 1 skein of No. 723 Baby Pink.
Plastic Crochet Hook No. 3
3 Small White Buttons
A Yard of Lt. Green Embroidery Floss

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Baby Girl Sweater – Yoke

Back

Starting at lower edge with White, make a chain 13 inches long.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, until row measures 11 1/2 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Sl st in first 4 sc, sc in next sc and in each sc across to within last 4 sc. Ch 1, turn (4 sc decreased at each end of row).

4th Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 4th row until piece measures 3 1/2 inches in all.

To Shape Shoulders:

1st Row: Dec 7 sc, sc in next sc and in each sc across to within last 7 sc. Ch 1, turn.

2nd and 3rd Rows: Repeat 3rd row of Yoke 2 more times. Break off.

Baby Girl Sweater – Front (Make 2)

Starting at lower edge, make a chain 7 inches long.

1st Row: Work as for first row of Back until row measures 5% inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Dec 4 sc, sc in next sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

4th Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 4th row until piece measures 2 3/4 inches in all, ending at front edge.

To Shape Baby Girl Sweater Neck:

1st Row: Sl st in first 7 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across to within last sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows once more. Now shape shoulder as for Back. Break off.

Sew shoulder seams and underarm seams.

Baby Girl Sweater – Body

1st Row: Attach yarn to first st at front edge of Yoke and, working around lower edge, ch 4, * dc in next st, ch 1. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw loop through, insert hook in next ch and draw a loop through, insert hook in first dc (at base of ch-3) and draw a loop through, insert hook in next dc and draw a loop through, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook, * ch 1 to fasten (star st), insert hook in fastening ch of star st just made and draw a loop through, insert hook in last loop of same star st and draw a loop through, insert hook in dc where last loop of previous star st was made and draw a loop through, insert hook in next dc and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook (another star st). Repeat from * across, drawing last loop of last star st through 3rd ch of ch-4 on previous row. Ch 4, turn.

3rd Row: Skip first fastening ch, * dc in next fastening ch, ch 1. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows, until Body measures 11 inches, ending with 2nd row. Break off.

Baby Girl Sweater – Sleeve (Make 2)

Starting at wrist edge with White, ch 38.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 6 1/2 inches.

To Shape Top:

1st row: Dec 3 sc at beginning and end of row. Now dec 1 sc at beginning and end of every other row until piece measures 8 1/2 inches in all. Break off.

Sew sleeve seams. Sew in Sleeves.

Baby Girl Sweater – Collar

Starting at neck edge with White, make a chain 11 inches long.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 9 3/4 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

4th to 8th Rows: Work as for 2nd row. Break off at end of 8th row.

Baby Girl Sweater – Edging

1st Row: Attach Pink to end of first row of Collar, sc closely across narrow edge, 3 sc in corner, sc in each sc across long edge, 3 sc in corner, sc closely across other narrow edge. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across, making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group at corners. Break off. Sew collar in place, easing in to fit.

Sweater – Buttonhole Band

Attach White to neck edge of Right Front.

1st Row: Sc closely across Front. Break off. Attach Pink to last sc made. Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Sc in each sc across, making 3 buttonholes evenly spaced on Yoke — to make a buttonhole, ch 2, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd row: Sc in each st across. Break off.

Baby Girl Sweater – Button Band

Attach White to lower edge of Left Front and work as for Buttonhole Band, omitting buttonholes.

With Pink embroider 4 flowers on each Yoke Front. With Green embroidery floss, embroider leaves around flowers. Block lightly.

Sew buttons in place to baby girl sweater.
