STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
NEWBORN BABY SET SACQUE
MEASUREMENTS — Chest 20 inches. Length from lower edge to neck edge 9 1/2 inches. Width of sleeves 7 inches.
SLEEVE
With A and steel hook ch 74 for lower edge.
Row 1 — 1 dc in 6th st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to end; 35 m.
Row 2 — Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, * ch 1, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from *, end ch 1, skip 1 st of turning ch, 1 dc in next st. Repeat row 2 for pat.
Work until 28 rows from beginning (about 6 ins.).
BODY
Ch 63 for length of front to underarm, work on ch as for first row, continue pat. across sleeve.
Join separate strand in same st as last dc was worked in, ch 60 for back, fasten off; continue row on this ch; 95 ra.
Work even for 13 rows more, end at lower edge of front.
Next Row — Ch 4, turn, work 45 m (front to neck edge).
Turn; work even for 9 rows more, end at lower edge of front. Fasten off. Turn, skip next 5 m on last long row for shoulder; with loop on hook work 1 dc in next dc, work pat. to end; 45 m.
Work 17 more rows even for back, ch 9 for other shoulder. Break off.
With A ch 94 for other front edge. Work same as first row; 45 m.
Work even for 10 rows more, end at neck edge; fasten end of ch left free at shoulder in same st last dc on front was worked in; continue row working 5 m on ch and 45 m on back; 95 m.
Work even for 13 rows more. Fasten off. Turn. Skip first 30 m of front, work next 35 m for other sleeve for 28 rows. Fasten off.
WEAVING
With B, beginning at lower edge of sacque, weave under and over the ch sts of meshes. On next row, weave over and under the ch sts, giving the woven effect as illustrated. Continue in this way until entire garment is filled in, with care not to draw theyarn too tightly. Fasten all ends. Sew seams.
EDGING
With B and white hook, working from right side, 1 slip st in first mesh of left front at neck edge, * ch 1, skip 1 m, 1 slip st in next m *; repeat between *’s to corner sp, ch 1, 1 slip st in same corner sp; repeat between *’s around lower edge to next corner, ch 1, 1 slip st in same corner sp; finish right front and neck edge to correspond. Fasten off.
Row 2 — With A and steel hook, working from same side as last row, 1 sc in any slip st, * ch 3, 1 dc in same st as last sc, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next slip st; repeat from * to end of round. Join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off. Work edging on sleeves in same way. Steam lightly. Trim with ribbon as illustrated.
NEWBORN BABY SET CAP
Ch 24 for back neck edge.
Row 1 — 1 dc in 5th st from hook, * ch 1, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to end; 20 m.
Row 2 — Same as row 2 of sacque.
Repeat row 2 until 4 inches.
Next Row — Ch 43 for side, turn, 1 dc in 6th st from hook, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st; finish row, working 20 m on ch, 20 m across back. With separate strand, ch 40 sts for other side, join in same st as last dc was worked in; continue row, working 20 m on ch; 60 m.
Work even for 4 1/2 inches. Slip ball through loop; do not break off. Sew sides of cap to back.
Neck Band
Continuing last row, ch 4, 1 dc in same st with last dc, * ch 1, skip 1 row on neck edge, 1 dc in end of next row (2 sp skipped), ch 1, 1 dc in end of next row; repeat from * to back of cap, ^ ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from ^ across back; work other side of neck edge to correspond to first. Ch 4, turn, work 2 more rows of pat. Fasten off. Weave with B under and over ch sts as for sacque, weaving under and over dc on neck band only. Work edging around entire cap, same as on sacque. Steam lightly. Trim as illustrated.
NEWBORN BABY SET CARRIAGE COVER
MEASUREMENTS — 25 inches by 30 inches. With A, ch 304 sts for long side. Work mesh pat. as for sacque, (150 m) until 25 inches from beginning. Fasten off.
WEAVING — Cut strands of B about 5 ins. longer than width of cover. Weave strands as for sacque, with care to keep cover even in size. Fasten all ends.
EDGING — Work edging around same as for sacque. Steam lightly.
