American Thread Company “Silkateen” 23 Balls White or Colors
Steel Crochet Hook #8
3 Yards of Ribbon

This carriage cover may also be made in any of the following Threads: “Star” or “Silkine” Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 10, “Gem” Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 10, “Star” or “Silkine” Pearl Cotton size 8.
If a heavier cover is desired use any of the following Threads: “Silkine” or “Star” Pearl Cotton size 5, “Star” or “Silkine” Crochet Cotton size 5, “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, “Star” Crochet Cord or “Gem” Crochet and Knitting Cotton.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Large Motif
Ch 8, join to form a ring, ch 4, work 23 trc into ring.
2nd Row – Ch 3, 2 dc in each trc.
3rd Row – * Ch 5, skip 3 dc, sc in next dc, repeat from * all around (12 loops).
4th Row – 12 dc in 1st loop, 1 sc in next loop, repeat all around.
5th Row – Ch 4, 11 dc over 12 dc, ch 4, sc in sc, repeat from beginning all around.
6th Row – Sl st to center of loop, * ch 5, 10 sc over 11 dc, ch 5, sc in loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, repeat from * all around.
7th Row – * Ch 5, 9 sc over 10 sc, ch 5, sc in loop, ch 5, sc in next loop. Ch 5, sc in next loop, repeat from * all around.
8th Row – Ch 5, 7 sc over 7 center sc and 1 sc with ch 5 between in each loop.
9th Row – Ch 5, 5 sc over 5 center sc and 1 sc with ch 5 between in each loop.
10th Row – Ch 5, 3 sc over 3 center sc and 1 sc with ch 5 between in each loop.
11th Row – Ch 2, 1 dc in center sc, ch 2, s in next loop, * ch 5, sc in next loop, repeat from * 5 times and from beginning all around.
2nd Motif
Work first 10 rows same as 1st Motif.
11th Row – Ch 2, dc in center sc, ch 2, sc in loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 2, sc in corresponding loop of 1st Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of 2nd Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of 1st Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of 2nd Motif and finish Motif same as first Motif.
The next Motif is joined to 2 Motifs in same manner leaving a triangular space in center for small Motif.
Small Motif
Ch 8, join to form a ring, ch 3, work 23 dc in ring, join.
2nd Row – Ch 2, sl st in 2 ch loop of large Motif, ch 2, skip 1 dc of small Motif, sc in next st, ch 2, sl st in next 2 ch loop of large Motif, ch 2, skip 1 d c, sc in next dc, ch 5, sl st in 1st free loop next to joining, ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, sl st in loop on other side of joining, ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next st, repeat from beginning all around.
Continue large and small motifs until carriage cover is about 30″ x 30″.
Fill in spaces around edge with small motifs and work edge all around.
1st Row – 1 dc in each loop with 3 ch between.
2nd Row – Skip 1 loop, in next loop, work * 1 trc, ch 3, sc in trc for picot, ch 1, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, 1 trc in same loop, ch 1, skip 1 loop, sc in next loop, repeat all around.
Finish carriage cover with bow as illustrated.
