Crochet Bag Pattern - Number 2723

REQUIRED MATERIALS

J and P COATS KNIT CRO-SHEEN
6 Balls of Maroon
Bone Crocket Hook No. 6
1/2 Yard each of Buckram and Powder Blue Felt for Lining
10 Inch Zipper

NOTE(s)

Use 4 threads throughout.

Gauge: 4 sts make 1 inch; 4 1/2 rnds make 1 inch.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Bag Piece (Make 2)

Starting at center, ch 16.

1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch. Working across opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each ch across (32 sc).

2nd rnd: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc to next 3-sc group) twice.

3rd to 10th rnds incl: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 4 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd (19 sc between center sc on each short side, 31 sc between center sc on each long side).

11th rnd: Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group (lower corner), 3 sc in center sc, (sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 5 sc in center sc – upper corner) twice, sc in each sc to next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd.

12th to 19th rnds incl: Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc, (sc in each sc to Center sc of next 5-sc group, 5 sc in center sc) twice, sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd. Break off.

Top

1st row: Attach thread to center sc of first 5-sc group. Sc in sc where thread was attached, working across upper edge, make sc in each sc to center sc of next 5-sc group, sc in renter sc (69 sc). Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 14th rows incl: Sc in next 69 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Break off at end of 14th row.

On 2nd Bag Piece, do not break off at end of 14th row. Hold the 2 Bag Pieces wrong sides together and working through both thicknesses, make a row of sc across short side, lower edge and other short side. Break off.

Cut out lining and buckram to fit Bag Piece up to the 19th rnd. Sew in place, insetting zipper at center of top. Now cut lining and buckram to fit top piece and sew in place. Make 2 horizontal pleats on each side at center of each top piece. For front piece, cut a piece of felt 2 x 10 inches and one 2 x 8 inches. Sew one end of 2 x 10 inch piece to inside of Bag, back of pleat. Sew one end of the 2 x 8 inch piece 1 inch below pleats in center of top. Fold free ends of the 2 pieces together to form bow and sew in place.
