Free Crochet Pattern for a Bag:

REQUIRED MATERIALS
CHADWICK’S RED HEART KNITTINO WORSTED
6 Balls (1 oz. balls) of Scarlet
Bone Crochet Hook No. 5
1/2 Yard each of Buckram and Felt for Lining
6 Buttons

Gauge: 4 sc make 1 inch; 2 rnds (1 sc rnd and 1 pattern rnd) make 1 inch.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Bag Piece
Starting at lower edge, ch 75 (loosely).
Join in a ring, being careful not to twist chain.
1st rnd: Ch 1, sc in each ch around. Sl st in 1st sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 3 sc. Holding hack on hook the last loop of each dc, make dc back in joining st, dc in next dc, draw yarn through all loops on hook – a crossed dc group at beginning of rnd. * Make another crossed dc group over the next 3 sc as follows: Dc in next 2 sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make dc in last dc of previous crossed dc group, dc in next dc, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on book. Repeat from * around, ending with dc in last 2 sc, dc in last dc of previous dc group. Sl st in 3rd st of ch-3.
3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining st, sc in each dc around. Sl st in 1st sc.
Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rnds alternately until piece measures 8 inches in all. Break off.
Bottom
Starting at center, ch 28.
1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working across opposite side of starting chain make sc in each ch across.
2nd to 5th rnds incl: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) twice, sc in each sc to end of rnd. Break off.
Buttonhole Tab (Make 3)
Starting at center, ch 4. Join.
lst rnd: 8 sc in ring.
2nd rnd: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 4 times.
3rd rnd: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 4 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd.
4th rnd: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 3 times; sc in each sc to next 3-sc group, ch 5, skip 3-sc group, sc in each sc to end of rnd.
5th rnd: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 3 times; sc in each sc to ch-5, sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, sc in each sc to end of rnd, sl st in next sc. Break off.
Button Tab (Make 3)
Same as Buttonhole Tab through the 3rd rnd.
Repeat the 3rd rnd once more.
5th rnd: (Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 3 times; sc in each sc to within 3 sc of center sc of next 3-sc group. Pick up a Buttonhole Tab piece and, holding the 2 wrong sides together and working through corner opposite buttonhole, make sc in next 7 sc through both thicknesses. Break off.
Side Pieces and Handle
Starting at lower edge, ch 6.
1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 35 inches. Break off.
Holding lower edge of side piece and bottom together and, working through both thicknesses, make sc in each st around. Cut a piece of cardboard for Bottom, then line bag with buckram and felt. Sew side and handle in place at lower edge of each side. Sew buttonhole tabs evenly across top. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Sew buttons on button tabs to correspond.
