Embroidered Baby Blanket – Crochet Baby Afghan – Free Crochet Pattern

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Embroidered Baby Blanket – Center

Ch 195 for lower edge.

Row 1 – 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc all in 7th st from hook (a shell), * ch 1, skip 3 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 3 sts, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc all in next st; repeat from * across, end ch 1, skip 3 sts, 1 dc in last st; 24 shells.

Row 2 – Ch 3, turn, * 1 shell in ch 2 sp of shell, ch 1, skip last 3 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1; repeat from *, end last repeat, ch 1, 1 dc in last dc of last shell.

Repeat row 2, 94 times.

Row 97 – Ch 7, turn, 1 sc in ch 2 sp of first shell, * ch 3, skip last 3 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 3, 1 sc in ch 2 sp of next shell; repeat from *, end ch 3, 1 dc in last dc of last shell.

Embroidered Baby Blanket – Border

Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc (corner st), work 191 sc to next corner (about 4 sc in each sp), 1 sc in center st of ch 7 (corner st), work 239 sc to next corner (about 5 sc to 2 rows), 1 sc in center of turning ch (corner st), work other 2 sides to correspond, join with slip st in first sc; 191 sc on each short end, 239 sc on each side, 1 sc in each corner.

Row 2 – wrong side – Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in same st as slip st, * 1 sc in each sc to corner, 3 sc in corner st; repeat from * around, end 1 sc in same st as first 2 sc, join with slip st in first sc.

Repeat last row 17 times; 227 sts on each short end, 275 sc on each side, plus 1 st in each corner.

Baby Blanket Ruffle

Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in same sc as slip st, ^ * ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to within 1 st of corner st, skip 1 st, ch 1, 1 dc, eh 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc all in corner st; repeat from ^ around, end last repeat skip 1 st, ch 1, 1 dc in same st as first dc, ch 1, join with slip st in 3rd st of turning ch. There will be 113 dc on short ends {making 114 sp) and 137 dc on sides (making 138 sp), plus 3 dc with ch 1 between in each corner.

Row 2 – Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in same st as slip st, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, a ll in next dc (a shell), ^ ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, * ch 1, 1 shell in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from * to corner group, work ch 1 and 1 shell in each of 3 dc of corner group ^; repeat between ^’s around, end last repeat ch 1, 1 shell in first dc of corner group, ch 1, 2 dc in same st as first dc of round, ch 1, join with slip st in top of turning ch.

Row 3 – Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first sp (corner), ch 1, skip last 2 dc of corner shell, 1 dc in next ch 1 sp, ^ * ch 1, 1 shell in ch 2 sp of next shell, skip last 2 dc of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from * to first shell of corner (3 shell) group, ch 1, 1 shell in ch 2 sp, skip last 2 dc of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, 1 shell in next ch 2 sp (corner), skip last 2 dc of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in ch 1 sp ^; repeat between ^’s around, end last repeat, ch 1, 2 dc in same sp as first dc, ch 1, slip st in top of turning ch.

Row 4 – Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first (corner) sp, * ch 1, skip last 2 dc of shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 shell in next ch 2 sp; repeat from * around, end last repeat ch 1, 2 dc in same sp as first dc, ch 1, slip st in top of turning ch. Fasten off.

Embroidered Baby Blanket – Finishing

Steam lightly. With contrasting color make 44 flowers as for sweater. Sew flowers on sc border, having 1 flower in each corner, 9 more on each short side, equally spaced, 11 more on each long side, equally spaced. Embroider as for sweater, see illustration. Line cover.
