Crochet a Bib with Teddy Bears
REQUIRED MATERIALS
ROYAL SOCIETY BABY PEARL – 2 balls
ROYAL MOULINE – 1 Skein of a Contrasting Color
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6
2 Small Pearl Buttons
NOTE(s)
Gauge – 10 sts make 1 inch; 11 Rows make 1 inch.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Starting at neck edge, ch 100 to measure 10 inches.
1st Row – Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (99 sc). Ch 1, turn.
2nd Row – Sc in back loop of 25 sts, ch 2, sc in back loop of next 17 sts, ch 2, sc in both loops of next 15 sts (center panel), ch 2, sc in back loop of next 17 sts, ch 2, sc in back loop of next 25 sts. Ch 1, turn.
3rd Row – (Sc in back loop of each st to next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in sp) twice (2 increases made). Sc in both loops of each st in center panel, 3 sc in sp (an increase), sc in back loop of each st across to next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in sp (an increase), sc in back loop of each remaining st. Ch 1, turn.
4th Row – (Sc in back loop of each st to center st of next 3-sc group, ch 2, sk center st of group) twice; sc in both loops of each st of center panel, ch 2, sk center st of 3-sc group, sc in back loop of each st across to center st of next 3-sc group, ch 2, sk center st, sc in back loop of each remaining st. Ch 1, turn.
5th to 9th Rows incl – Repeat 3rd and 4th Rows alternately twice, then repeat 3rd Row once more. Fasten off, turn.
Attach thread in center st of first increase point.
Hereafter work back and forth to corresponding increase point on opposite side, continuing pattern and increases over the 2 center increase points, at the same time decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 3rd Row until bib measures 3 1/2 inches down center front – to decrease, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Fasten off.
Edging for this Bib
1st Row – Attach thread to neck edge at back, ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, (ch 6, sk ends of next 3 Rows, sc in end of next Row) twice (2 button loops made). Ch 5, * sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * across to 1st increase point, then ** sk end of next Row, dc in end of following Row, ch 1. Repeat from ** across to corner; in corner make dc, ch 3 and dc. Continue in this manner along entire outer edge, ending with dc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
2nd Row – Sc in 1st dc, * ch 4, 2 dc in last sc, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around to button loops on other end, make 5 sc in each loop. Fasten off. Sew on buttons.
Embroidery for Teddy Bears
Trace figures from diagram onto light-weight paper. Pin tracing in place on center panel. With only one strand of Royal Mouline, embroider figures through paper onto bib, using very small outline stitches.
