Vintage Baby Bib - Crocheted Bib
Free Vintage Crochet Pattern

This free vintage baby bib crochet pattern was originally published in the 1920s (around 1927). It is a really cute baby bib.



Follow the easy step-by-step instructions of this vintage crochet pattern to make this classic baby bib. There is absolutely no charge for personal use of this crocheted baby bib pattern.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Perle Cotton, No. 5, or Crochet Silk
A Fine Crochet Hook

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Commence with 38 chain, turn, and make 1 double crochet in 3rd stitch from needle, and every stitch to end.

2nd Row - 2 chain to turn, 1 dc in each of 17 double crochet (taking through back thread), 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, all in next stitch, then 1 dc in each of last 18.

3rd Row — 3 ch to turn, 1 tr in each of 6 stitches, 5 half treble (thread over, draw through stitch, draw through 2 loops, and keep last one on needle), draw through all stitches on hook together (this will now be referred to as a "tuft"), 1 tr in each of next 7 stitches, 1 tuft, 1 tr in each of next 3 stitches, 1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr, all in chain stitch in center of former row, 1 tr in each of next 3 stitches, 1 tuft, 7 treble, 1 tuft, 7 treble.

4th Row — 2 chain to turn, 1 dc in each tr to center, where make 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc in chain stitch, then 1 dc in each stitch to end.

5th Row — 3 ch to turn, 1 tr in each dc to center, 1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr in chain, then 1 tr in each stitch to end.

6th Row — Like the 4th Row.

7th Row — Like the 3rd Row.

You will have 7 tr each side of center. Work on in this way, increasing in center, and working through back thread of stitches until you have 22 rows. Break off.

In the 11th and 19th rows you will add 1 more tuft, with 7 tr between each side of center.

Vintage Baby Bib Edge

28 ch, 1 d c in each stitch down right side of bib, 4 chain, then *miss 1 stitch, 1 tr in next, 1 ch. Repeat from *, taking through both threads across foot, making 1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr in center as usual. At end of foot make 3 ch, and work 1 dc in each stitch up left side, 31 chain.

2nd Row — Turn, 1 tr in 5th chain from needle, then 1 chain, 1 tr, alternately all around to end of chain, making 1 ch, 1 tr extra at 3 corner points, and putting the treble into each treble at foot.

3rd Row - Turn, with 3 ch, *1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr, in next tr stitch, 1 tr in next tr stitch. Repeat from * around bib and across end, then alternately 1 ch, 1 tr, missing 1 stitch between, around neck and opposite end of strap.

4th Row — Now work all around entire bib, alternately 1 dc, 1 picot (3 chain, 1 dc in 1st stitch), 1 dc in chain between trebles, and 1 dc on single treble.

Thread narrow ribbon through holes at neck of vintage baby bib.
