Time Slips Through Our Fingers

by Peggy
(Lexington, Michigan)

Time has a way of slipping through our fingers.

This month, my Mother will have passed away 7 years already from Alzheimer's Disease, and it feels as if it was only yesterday.

At that time, I made a promise to myself that I was going to keep her memory alive by making either afghans, throws, or shawls, and donating them in her name to seniors or to battered women's shelters.

I chose those places not because she was battered, but because I felt that these were two places that didn't get enough attention.

About the time my Mother passed away, my Husband lost his job, and we in turn lost our house. For selfish reasons, my Father turned his back on us, and we lived in our pop-up camper, moving from campground to campground. I was sure to pack my yarn with me, but only had enough for a few washcloths. We lost our furniture and other belongings, but I'm not complaining.

I'm just a bit disappointed with myself that time has gone on, and my dream has not happened yet. It has taken more time than I've hoped for us to climb out of our hole for me to start on my dream and start making my donations. It's the start of a New Year, and I'm full of hope.

Even though I took a bad fall a little over a year ago, and it affected me physically, I'm ready to proceed. I've been an avid knitter and crocheter for over 35 years, and I want to do my Mother's name proud!! Thank you for such a wonderful contest!!

Hi,

It was saddening to hear of your losses: your beloved mother, the father you should have had, and your home. I'm glad that you found strength throughout all this and wish to keep her memory alive through your creativity and work.

Blessings,
C.
