Gauge: 4 rounds = l inch
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
With A, ch 4, join with slip st into ring. Ch 3, work 1 dc in ring, taking off last 2 loops of dc with B, * working over A, with B work 2 dc in ring, taking off last 2 loops of last st with A, working over B, with A work 2 dc in ring, taking off last 2 loops of last st with B; repeat from * twice, working over A, with B work 2 dc in ring taking off last 2 loops of last st with A; join with slip st in top of ch; 16 sts, counting ch 3 as 1 st.
Note: Always change colors in this way working over color not being used and joining rounds with slip st in top of ch 3.
Round 2 — With A, ch 3, 1 dc in same st as slip st, 2 dc in next st (inc.), with B, * 2 dc in each of next 2 sts *; repeat between *'s 6 times, alternating colors; 32 sts.
Round 3 — With A, ch 3, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st,2 dc in next st, with B, * 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st *; repeat between *'s 6 times, alternating colors. Continue to inc. 2 sts in each section, having 1 st more between increases every round until there are 96 sts around.
Work 4 rounds even.
Round 11 — With A, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, yo, draw up a loop in next st, yo, through 2 loops, yo, draw up a loop in next st, yo, through 2 loops, yo, through 3 loops (a dec), 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, dec. 1 st; with B, * 1 dc in each of next 4 sts., dec. 1 st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, dec. 1 st *; repeat between *'s 6 times alternating colors; 80 sts.
Continue to dec. as above having 1 st less between decreases; 2 sts less in each section in each round, until 32 sts remain.
Stuff the striped ball firmly with cotton batting.
Round 15 — Dec. 2 sts in each section. Gather remaining sts with both threads and sew. Fasten off.
