Sparkling Ponytail Cap Pattern
Free Vintage Crochet Pattern

This free sparkling ponytail cap pattern was originally published by Coats and Clark's in 1955 in Hats & Bags, Book No. 310.



Follow the easy step-by-step instructions of this vintage hat pattern to crochet this classic sparkling ponytail cap. There is absolutely no charge for personal use of this crocheted hat pattern.

Sparkling Ponytail Cap Pattern

Vintage Sparkling Pony Tail Cap

REQUIRED MATERIALS

J & P Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen" Metallic, Art. A.64: 4 balls of No. M.18-A Shaded Purples.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 5
2 yards of lavender Walco sequins, Style No. 2365.

NOTE(S)

Gauge: 6 half dc and 2 ch-1 sps make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Starting at lower edge of crown, make a chain 23 inches long, having a number of chains divisible by 3 and 2 over. Join with a sl st to first chain, being careful not to twist.

1st Rnd - Ch 2, half dc in next ch, * ch 1, skip next ch, half dc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * around, ending with half dc in last 2 ch. Now work in pattern as follows: Skip the ch-2, * half dc in back loop of next half dc, half dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip next half dc. Repeat from * until piece measures 3/4 inch in depth.

Next Rnd - Working over the strip of sequins and being careful not to pull strip too tightly, * ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, sl st in back loop of first sc. Cut off unused strip of sequins. Sew ends neatly together.

Following Rnd - Ch 2, * half dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, half dc in back loop of next sc. Reepat from * around, ending with ch 1. Now continue to work in pattern until piece measures 6 1/4 inches in all.

Next Rnd - Sc in each ch-1 sp around.

Following Rnd - * Work off next 2 sc as 1 sc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st in first sc.

THE PONY TAIL

1st Rnd - Ch 2, half dc in same place as sl st, * ch 1, 2 half dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Now work in pattern as for crown until pony tail measures 6 inches. Work 1 rnd over sequins as before, 1 rnd in pattern and next rnd with sequins. Break off at end of last rnd. Working along starting chain of crown and over sequins, attach thread to first sp and join sequins as before. Join and break off. Cut a strip of sequins 3 1/2 inches long and sew around the hat between the grown and the pony tail. Sew ends together.
