Sparkling Cloche Pattern
Free Vintage Crochet Pattern

This free sparkling cloche pattern was originally published by Coats and Clark's in 1955 in Hats & Bags, Book No. 310.



Follow the easy step-by-step instructions of this vintage hat pattern to crochet this classic sparkling cloche. There is absolutely no charge for personal use of this crocheted hat pattern.

Sparkling Cloche Pattern

Vintage Sparkling Cloche

REQUIRED MATERIALS

J & P Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen" Metallic, Art A. 64: 9 balls of No. M.1 White and 1 ball of No. M.126 Spanish Red, or any color combination of your choice.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook: No. 2/0 (double zero)

1/2 yard red felt for lining
1 cuff link for fastener
6 packages of Walco gold drop beads, Style No. 7368
2 packages of tiny gold beads, Style No. 7303

NOTE(S)

Use thread double throughout.

Gauge: 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch.

There is also a pattern for a matching bag. The 'required materials' are what is required to make BOTH the cloche and the matching bag.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

THE CLOCHE

Starting at center of crown, ch 2.

1st Rnd - 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd Rnd - 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd Rnd - * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Sc in each sc, increasing 6 sc evenly on each rnd, until piece measures 6 inches in diameter, then work without increasing utnil piece measures 5 1/2 inches from center of crown.

THE BRIM

1st Rnd - * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

2nd to 6th Rnds - Sc in each sc around. At end of 6th rnd, sl st in next sc. Break off.

7th Rnd - Using 3 strands of Spanish Red, attach thread to same place as sl st, sc in each sc around. Join and turn. Sl st in each sc around. Join and break off.

Sew beads in place around brim.

THE CORD

Cut 10 strand os red, each 2 yards long. Twist these strands tightly, then double and give them a twist in the opposite direction, knot free ends. Tie in place around cloche and make a knot at each end.
