Sultana Baby Floss (B), 1 Ball

This Peter Pan cardigan pattern is for a child of about 3 years.

Measurements — Chest 23 inches, length from lower edge to neck 12 1/2 inches, sleeves — width 8 inches.

Gauge: 9 stars = 2 inches, 11 rows = 2 inches

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

With A ch 105.

Row 1 — 1 sc in 2nd and each remaining st on ch; 104 sc.

Row 2 — right side — Ch 3, turn (ch 3 counts as 1 dc), yo, draw up a loop in 3rd st from hook, and a loop in each of next 3 sts, yo, draw through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 (eye of star); * yo, draw up a loop in back thread of last loop, draw up a loop in same st as last loop of star, and a loop in each of next 2 sts, yo, draw through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1; repeat from *, end 1 dc in last st; 51 stars.

Row 3 — Ch 2, turn (ch 2 counts as 1 hdc), 2 hdc in eye of each star (hdc will always be worked in eye of star), 1 hdc in top of turning ch; 104 hdc.

Row 4 — Same as row 2.

Row 5 — Ch 2, turn, lay strand of B across top of work, with A, working over B, work 1 hdc in first star, yo, draw up a loop in same st, drop A, complete hdc with B, * working over A with B draw up Ms-in. loop in next star, t yo, draw up a loop in same st t; repeat between +'s twice, yo, draw through 8 loops on hook, drop B, with A ch 1, working over B, 2 hdc in each of next 5 stars, working off loops of last hdc with B *; repeat between *'s, end last repeat 2 hdc in last star, 1 hdc in top of turning ch; 9 puffs. Always break B at end of puff rows. Fasten B strands at each side when piece is completed.

Row 6 — Same as row 2.

Row 7 — Same as row 3.

Row 8 — Same as row 2.

Row 9 — Ch 2, turn, lay strand of B across top of work, with A, working over B, work 2 hdc in each of first 4 stars, working off loops of last hdc with B; repeat between *'s of row 5, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of last 4 stars, 1 hdc in turning ch; 8 puffs.

Repeat last 8 rows for pat.

Work even in pat. until 44 rows from beginning.

Armholes

Lay strand of B across work, ch 2, turn, with A, working over B, work 1 hdc in each of first 2 stars (2 sts dec), 2 hdc in eye of each of next 5 stars, working off loops of last hdc with B; repeat between *'s of row 5 to within 2 stars of end, 1 hdc in each of last 2 stars (2 sts dec), 1 hdc in turning ch. Repeat decreases each side every 2nd row twice, keeping pat.

Work even in pat. on 45 stars, until 70 rows from beginning; fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT

With A ch 51. Work as for first 4 rows of back; 50 sts—24 stars.

Row 5 — Same as row 9 of back, end last repeat 2 hdc in last star, 1 hdc in turning ch.

Rows 6, 7 and 8 — Same as rows 6, 7 and 8 of back.

Row 9 — Same as row 5 of back, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of last 4 stars, 1 hdc in turning ch.

Repeat last 8 rows for pat.

Work even until 44 rows from beginning, end on right side at underarm edge.

Armhole

Shape as for left armhole of back, keeping front edge even; 44 sts—21 stars. Continue in pat. until 62 rows from beginning.

Neck Shaping

Next row — Work to within 4 stars of end (neck edge); 1 hdc in next star; 36 sts. Continuing in pat., dec 2 sts at neck edge every 2nd row 3 times as for right armhole of back; 30 sts—14 stars. Work even until 71 rows from beginning. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT

Work first 4 rows as for right front.

Row 5 — Same as row 5 of back, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of last 4 stars, 1 hdc in turning ch.

Rows 6, 7 and 8 — Same as rows 6, 7 and 8 of right front.

Row 9 — Same as row 9 of back, end last repeat 2 hdc in last star, 1 hdc in turning ch.

Repeat last 8 rows for pat.

Work even until 44 rows from beginning.

Armhole

Shape as for right armhole of back. Continue in pat. until 62 rows from beginning.

Neck Shaping

Slip st across first 8 sts, ch 2, work 2 hdc in each star, end 1 hdc in turning ch; 36 sts. Finish to correspond to right front.

SLEEVES

Row 1 — With A, ch 61.

Work as for first 4 rows of back; 60 sts—29 stars.

Row 5 — Ch 2, turn, lay strand of B across work, with A working over B, work 2 hdc in first star, 1 hdc in next star, yo, draw up a loop in same st, drop A, complete hdc with B, repeat between *'s of row 5 of back, end 2 hdc in each of last 2 stars, 1 hdc in top of turning ch, continue in pat. until 10 rows from beginning.

Row 11 (inc. row) — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in dc, 3 hdc in first star, 2 hdc in each star to within 1 star of end, 3 hdc in last star, 2 hdc in turning ch; 64 sts—31 stars.

Continue in pat. increasing 2 sts each side as in row 11 every 12th row twice; 35 stars. Work even until 52 rows from beginning (9 1/4 ins.).

Dec 2 sts each side of next row and repeat every 2nd row 4 times.

Work 1 row even; 25 stars. Fasten off.

Right Front Band

Join A at right front neck edge, working from wrong side, work 106 sc (about 5 sc to 3 rows), along front edge.

Row 2 — Same as row 2 of back; 52 stars.

Row 3 — Ch 2, turn, 2 hdc in first star, * ch 2, skip next star (buttonhole), 2 hdc in each of next 10 stars; repeat from *, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of 6 stars, 1 hdc in top of turning ch; 5 buttonholes.

Row 4 — Same as row 2, working a star over ch 2 of each buttonhole.

Row 5 — Same as row 3 of back. Row 6—Slip st in each st. Fasten off.

Left Front Band

Join A at lower edge of left front and work as for right front, omitting buttonholes.

FINISHING

Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seams at center underarm.

COLLAR

Row 1 — Join A at inner edge of left front band, working around neck from wrong side, work 21 sc to shoulder seam, 30 sc across back of neck, 21 sc to inner edge of right border; 72 sc.

Row 2 — Ch 2, turn, 1 hdc in first st, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from *, end 1 hdc in last st; 108 sts.

Row 3 — Same as row 2 of back; 53 stars.

Row 4 — Ch 2, turn, lay strand of B across top of work, with A, working over B, work 2 hdc in each of next 2 stars, completing last hdc with B, repeat between *'s of row 5 of back, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of last 2 stars, 1 hdc in turning ch; 9 puffs.

Row 5 — Same as row 2 of back; 53 stars.

Row 6 — Ch 2, turn, 3 hdc in first star, 2 hdc in each of next 2 stars, * 3 hdc in next star, 2 hdc in each of next 2 stars; repeat from *, end last repeat 2 hdc in last star, 1 hdc in turning ch; 126 sts.

Row 7 — Same as row 2 of back; 62 stars.

Row 8 — Ch 2, turn, lay strand of B across work, with A, 1 hdc in each of 2 stars, 2 hdc in each of 4 stars, completing last hdc with B, * 1 puff in next star, drop B, with A, 2 hdc in each of 6 stars, completing last hdc with B; repeat from *, end last repeat 2 hdc in each of 4 stars, 1 hdc in each of last 2 stars, 1 hdc in turning ch; 8 puffs. Fasten off.

Final Row — Join A in 2nd row of left front band, working from right side of collar, work 6 stars along side edge, 1 star in corner, continue stars around, join to 2nd row of right band. Fasten off. Steam lightly.
