NOTE(s)

This is a rather large crochet basket, measuring 4 1/2 inches in diameter and 5 1/2 inches tall, handle and all, while the basket part is about 2 inches tall. The handle is in the form of a beading and a colored ribbon is strung through. A lining of the same color would add to the effectiveness.

To stiffen basket, dip with sugar water made in the proportion of 1 spoonful of sugar to 2 spoonfuls of water and pull into shape over a form; a glass of anything the desired size will do.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Ch 5, join.

1st Row - Ch 3, 19 dc in ring, join, ch 6.

2nd Row - 1 dc and ch 3 in every other dc, join in 3rd ch.

3rd Row - Ch 3, 1 dc in 1st ch, * ch 3, skip 1 ch, 1 dc each in next 3 stitches. Repeat from * ending with 1 dc in last ch, join.

4th Row - Ch 3, 1 dc on 1 dc, 1 dc on 1st ch * ch 3, skip 1 ch, a group of 5 dc on next 5 stitches. Repeat from * ending with 1 dc each on last sch and last dc, join.

5th Row - Ch 3, 2 dc on 2 dc, 1 dc on 1st ch, * ch 3, skip 1 ch, a group of 7 dc on next 7 stitches. Repeat from *, ending with 1 dc on last 3 stitches, join.

Continue this way, making 2 dc more in groups in each sucessive row and 3 ch between groups, until there are 11 dc in 1 group.

8th Row - Ch 3, 4 dc on next 4 dc, * ch 3, skip 1 dc and 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch, ch 3, skip 1 ch and 1 dc, 9 dc on next 9 dc. Repeat from * ending with 4 dc on last 4 dc, join.

9th Row - Ch 3, 3 dc on next 3 dc, * ch 3, skip 1 dc and 2 ch, 3 dc on next 3 stitches, ch 3, skip 2 ch and 1 dc, 7 dc on next 7 dc. Repeat from * ending with 3 dc on last 3 dc, join.

10th Row - Ch 3, 2 dc on next 2 dc, * ch 3, skip 1 dc and 2 ch, a group of 5 dc on next 5 stitches, ch 3, skip 2 ch and 1 dc, 5 dc on next 5 dc. Repeat from *.

Make another row, making 3 dc in the original groups and 7 dc in the new groups with 3 ch between.

12th Row - Ch 6, * skip 1 dc and 2 ch, 9 dc on next 9 st, ch 3, 1 dc in center of next group, ch3. Repeat from *, join in 3rd ch.

13th Row - Ch 3, 1 dc in each stitch, join, break thread. This finishes the bottom of this large crochet basket.

Large Crochet Basket Side

Ch 13.

1st Row - 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 17 dc around original ch, 1 dc in last ch, ch 5, turn.

2nd Row - 1 dc and ch 2 in every other dc, ending with 1 dc in last stitch, turn.

3rd Row - Ch 5 and 1 sc in 1st 8 spaces ch 10, skip 1 space, 1 sc in last space, ch 3, turn.

4th Row - 20 dc in loop of ch 10, 1 slip stitch in 8th loop in previous row, ch 5, turn.

5th Row - Like 2nd Row.

6th Row - Ch 5, 1 sc in 1st space, ch 2, 1 slip stitch into 1 dc in last row of bottom of basket, ch 2, 1 sc in next space of previous row, ch 2, skip 2 dc, 1 slip stitch in next dc, ch 2, 1 sc in next space of previous row, ch 2, skip 2 dc, 1 sl st in next dc, ch 2, 1 sc in next space of previous row, ch 5 and 1 sc in next 4 spaces, ch 10, skip 1 space, 1 sc in last space, ch 3, 1 sc in 7th loop in 3rd row, ch 3, turn.

7th Row - Like 4th Row.

Now repeat from 2nd Row (join every 6th Row to bottom of basket leaving 7 or 8 dc between the scallops) until there are 12 sets of scalops, join.

Large Crochet Basket Handle

Ch 17, turn.

1st Row - Skip 3 ch, 4 dc in next 4 ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next st, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 5 dc on last 5 stitches, ch 3, turn.

2nd Row - Skip 1 dc, 4 dc on 4 dc, ch 5, 5 dc on 5 dc, ch 3, turn.

Repeat these 2 rows for 60 rows, or until handle is length desired. Sew to the large crochet basket.
