REQUIRED MATERIALS

Sultana Beautysheen (A)
6 balls for Sacque, Cap and Bootees; 12 balls for Cover
Sultana Baby Floss (B)
2 balls for Sacque, Cap and Bootees; 3 balls for Cover
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 2

NOTE(s)

This gift set is for infant from newborn to 6 months.

Gauge: Yoke — 15 sts = 2 inches, 10 rows = l inch
Shell Pattern — 3 patterns = 2 1/2 inches

Measurements: Sacque - Chest 20 inches, length from lower edge to back of neck 9 inches, width of sleeves 6 1/2 inches.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

INFANT GIFT SET SACQUE

YOKE

With B, ch 65, with A, draw loop through last loop, drop B.

Row 1 — With A, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook and in each st to end; 65 sc. Always fasten A by drawing ball through loop, do not break off.

Row 2 — Working from I same side, draw B through beginning of last row, ch 1, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * to end.

Row 3 — With A, draw loop through last loop, ch 1, turn; 1 sc in first sc, * 1 sc under ch 1, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * to end; 65 sc. Fasten as for first row.

Repeat last 2 rows until 20 rows (about 2 ins.) from beginning, end with B row.

Neck Shaping

Work first 21 sts only for 10 rows, end at neck edge with B row; ch 14 for right front neck edge. Fasten off A.

Next row — Join A, work 14 sc on ch, finish row in pat.

Continue pat. on 35 sts until 20 rows from neck edge, end with B row (front edge), turn.

SHELL PATTERN

Row 1 — wrong side — With A ch 1, 1 sc in first sc, skip 2 sts, 5 dc under next ch 1 (shell), * skip 1 st, 1 sc under next ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 shell under next ch; repeat from * 6 times, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in last sc; 8 shells.

Row 2 — Working from same side as first row, with B, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 3, 1 sc in center dc of shell, ch 3, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * to end.

Row 3 — Draw A through last loop, ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first sc, * 1 sc in next sc, 1 shell in next sc; repeat from *, end 3 dc in last sc.

Row 4 — Draw B through 3rd st of turning ch, ch 1, 1 sc in same st, * ch 3, 1 sc in next sc, ch 3,1 sc in center dc of shell; repeat from *, end last sc in last dc.

Row 5 — Draw A through last loop, ch 1, 1 sc in first sc, 1 shell in next sc, continue pat. to end with 1 sc in last st. Break off A. Skip 23 sts on back of neck; join A in next st, work yoke pat. on last 21 sts to correspond to other half for 10 rows, end with B row. Join separate strand of B to first st of last row, ch 14; fasten off. Work yoke pat. on 35 sts to correspond to other half. Work 5 rows shell pat. Fasten off both threads. Working from wrong side across foundation ch of back of yoke, with A, 1 sc in first st, skip 1 st, 1 shell in next st, skip 1 st, 'i 1 sc in next st, * skip 2 sts, 1 shell in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip 1 st, 1 shell in next st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * to end; 13 shells. Continue shell pat. for 4 rows more. Break off.

Row 6 — Take up B at right front edge, working from wrong side, work pat. row 2 across right front, ch 3 for underarm, continue across back, ch 3 for underarm, work across left front.

Row 7 — Draw A through last loop, turn, work pat. across left front, having 1 full shell in last sc, 1 sc in center of underarm ch, 1 full shell in first and in last sc of back, finish row to correspond. Work pat. even until about 6 ins. from yoke, end on right side with A row. Break off.

BORDER

With B, working from right side of sacque down left front edge, 1 sc in last row of yoke, * ch 2, 1 sc in next B row of shell pat., repeat from * to corner, continue pat. on lower edge, work right front edge to correspond.

Row 2 — With A, draw loop through last loop, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, 1 shell in next sc, finish row. Fasten off.

SLEEVES

Working from wrong side with A, 1 sc in center st of underarm ch, 1 shell in 2nd A row below yoke, 1 sc in first row of yoke, * skip 3 rows on yoke, 1 shell in next row, skip 2 rows, 1 sc in next row; repeat from * 6 times, 1 shell in 3rd row below yoke, 1 sc in same sp as first st; 9 shells. Continue pat. working 2 rows from wrong side and 2 rows from right side for about 3 1/2 ins., end on wrong side with A row. Fasten off.

Yoke Edging

Working from right side, with A, 1 sc in lower row of yoke, ch 2, draw up loop in same sp as sc, draw up loop in next A row, yo, through all 3 loops, ch 2, draw up a loop in same sp as last loop, draw up a loop in next A row, yo, through all 3 loops. Continue edging up front, around neck and down other front edge of yoke, keeping work flat. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew sleeve seams. Fasten off ends. Steam lightly. Trim with ribbon.

INFANT GIFT SET CAP

CROWN

With A, ch 5, join with slip st into ring. Work 14 sc in ring. Fasten, do not break.

Round 2 — With B, working from same side, 1 sc in first st, * eh 1, 1 sc in next st; repeat from *, end ch 1, join with slip st to first sc; 28 sts. Turn.

Round 3 — right side — Carrying yarn not in use on wrong side, draw A through loop, ch 1, 1 sc in joining st, * 1 sc under ch, 1 sc in next st; repeat from *, end 1 sc under ch, slip st in first sc. Fasten.

Round 4 — With B, working from same side, * 1 sc in sc, ch 1, skip 1 st; repeat from * to end, join to first sc. Turn.

Round 5 — wrong side — Work as for round 3.

Round 6 — Same as round 2; 56 sts.

Rounds 7 and 8 — Same as rounds 3 and 4.

Round 9 — Same as round 5, increasing 1 st in first and every 5th st; 68 sts.

Round 10 — Same as round 4.

Round 11 — Same as round 3, increasing 1 st in every 4th st; 85 sts.

Round 12 — Same as round 4, end 1 sc in last st, join.

SHELL PATTERN

Round 1 — Turn, wrong side — With A, 1 sc in first st, * skip 2 sts, 1 shell of 3 dc in next st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from *. end last repeat 1 slip in first sc; 17 shells. Fasten.

Round 2 — With B work same as for row 2 of shell pat. of sacque, with ch 2 between sc instead of ch 3. join to first sc.

Round 3 — Turn, with A, ch 3, 2 dc in joining st, * 1 sc in next sc, shell of 5 dc in next sc; repeat from *, end 2 dc in same st as ch 3, join to top of ch 3. Fasten.

Round 4 — Same as row 4 of sacque with ch 3 between sc, end ch 3, slip st in first sc. Work shell pat. for 2 rounds more.

Short Row — With A, work same as round 3 until 13 full shells and 1/2 shell each side. Fasten. Continue shell pat. as for sacque on 14 shells until there are 14 A rows from crown.

Frill

With B, 1 sc in first st, * ch 2, 1 sc in next sc, ch 2, 1 sc in center dc of next shell; repeat from *, end 1 sc in last dc.

Next Row — Turn; with A, 1 sc in first sc, * skip 1 st, 1 shell of 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * to end; 21 shells. Work pat. until there are 4 A rows. Fasten off.

Neckband

Fold back frill.

With B, working from wrong side through end of frill and cap, 1 sc in first A row, ch 1, 1 sc in next A row, continue to back of cap, work 1 sc, ch 1 in each ch 3 sp, finish row to correspond to first side. Work 5 rows of pat. as for yoke of sacque, end with B row. With A, work edging as on front of yoke and neck edge, continue edging on foundation row of frill, drawing up loops in sp between sc and shells. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Steam lightly. Trim with ribbon.

INFANT GIFT SET BOOTEES

Instep

With B, ch 11. Work 11 sc as for yoke of sacque for 14 rows. Break off A, end with B row; ch 17.

Row 15 — right side — With A, draw loop through last loop, work 17 sc on ch, 14 sc on side of instep, 11 sc on foundation ch, 14 sc on other side. With separate strand of B, ch 17, join in same st as last sc; with A, continue 17 sc on ch; 73 sc.

Continue pat. for 10 rows more, end with A row.

Next Row — With B, work pat. for 29 sts, * skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * 6 times, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st, work to end. Work 2 rows more, end last row with 2 sc. Fasten off.

Leg

With A, working from wrong side, 1 sc in first st of ch 17 (center of heel), skip 3 sts, * 1 shell in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from *, end last repeat skip 3 sts, 1 sc in end st; 7 shells.

Work shell pat. until there are 5 A rows. Fasten off. Sew seams. Steam lightly. Trim with ribbon.

INFANT GIFT SET CARRIAGE COVER

This gift set carriage cover is approximate 25 inches by 32 inches.

With B, ch 181, draw A through last loop, drop B.

Row 1 — With A, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, * skip 2 sts, 1 shell of 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sts. 1 sc in next st; repeat from * to end; 30 shells. Fasten.

Continue shell pat. as for sacque for 32 ins., end with B row, do not break off.

BORDER

Continuing B row on side edge of cover, * ch 2,1 sc in next B row; repeat from * to corner. Fasten off. Work other side to correspond. Fasten off B.

Row 2 — Work same as row 2 of border of sacque. with care to have all 4 corners alike. Fasten off. Steam lightly.
