Free Crochet Scarf Pattern: How to Crochet a Child's Scarf

Gauge: 11 sts = 2"; 8 rows = 3"
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 40, 1 dc in 4th st from hook and in each of next 6 sts, skip 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, 3 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 10 sts, skip 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, 3 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 8 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts, * skip 3 dc of shell below, a shell of 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in space of next ch 1, skip other 3 do of shell below *, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, repeat between *'s once, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, working last dc in 3rd st of turning ch.
Repeat last row until piece measures 16 1/2" or half of desired length. Break off.
Join yarn at beginning of scarf and work pat. on other side of foundation chain for same number of rows as first half. Fasten off.
Fringe for Crochet Child's Scarf
Wind yarn around 2 1/2" cardboard and cut on 1 side. Pull center of a 5" strand through back lp of each st, pull ends of strand through lp and draw down firmly. Trim.
