Child's Trunks - Crochet Pattern

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Chadwick's Red Heart Sock and Sweater Yarn, 3 Ply, 1-oz. Ball
Jewel Blue, 2 (2, 3, 3) Balls
Crochet Hook No. 4

NOTE(s)

These child's trunks can be crocheted in sizes 2, 3, 4, and 5. The instructions in this pattern are for size 2.

Changes for sizes 3, 4, and 5 are in parentheses.

Gauge: 6 sts = 1"; 5 rows = 1".

Length from Top to Crotch: 8 3/4 (9 1/4, 9 3/4, 10 1/2)".

Width around Hips: 22 (23, 24, 25)".

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Starting at crotch, ch 13 (15, 17, 19) sts.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * dc in next ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * to last ch, dc in next ch. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: * Sc in top of 1st dc, dc in next sc, repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 for pat. Inc. 2 sts at beg. and end of next row and every following row (To Inc. 2 sts—sc, dc and sc in 1st dc, work in pat. to last st, dc, sc and dc in last dc) until there are 64 (70, 74, 78) sts.

Work even until piece measures 5 (5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2)". Dec. 2 sts at beg. and end of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until 44 (48, 52, 56) sts remain. (To Dec. 2 sts—work off first 3 sts as 1 sc at beg. of row, work across to last 3 sts, work off last 3 sts as 1 st at end of row.)

When piece measures 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2, 9)" break off.

Make another piece in same manner.

Waistband for Child's Trunks:

Starting at narrow edge, ch 10.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in back lp of each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 until band measures 15 1/2 (16 1/2, 17 1/2, 18 1/2)". Break off.

Seam crotch and sides.

Sew on Waistband.

Work 2 rows sc around leg openings.

Sew elastic inside waistband.
