STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
BODY
With A, ch 4, join with slip st in first st forming ring. Ch 3, work 15 dc in ring, join with slip st in top of ch 3; 16 sts, counting ch 3 as 1 dc.
Round 2 — right side — Ch 3, do not turn (all rounds are worked from right side), 1 dc in same st as slip st, 2 dc in each remaining st, join; 32 dc.
Round 3 — Ch 3, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from *, end 2 dc in last st, join; 48 dc.
Round 4 — Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from *, end 2 dc in last st, drop A, join with slip st in top of ch 3 using B. Carry color not being used on wrong side of work.
Round 5 — With B, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of 3 sts; repeat from * around, end 2 dc in last st, drop B, join with slip st using A; 80 sts.
Round 6 — With A, ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd and each remaining st, join.
Repeat round 6 twice, end last round drop A, join with slip st using B.
Working even, work 1 round with B, 3 rounds with A, 1 round with B, 3 rounds with A, join last round with B.
Round 17 — With B, ch 3, 1 dc in each of 2 sts, * yo, draw up a loop in next st, yo, through 2 loops, yo, draw up a loop in next st, yo, through 2 loops, yo, through 3 loops (dec), 1 dc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from *, end dec. 1 st, join with slip st using A; 64 sts. Fasten off B.
Round 18 — With A, ch 3,1 dc in next st, * dec. 1 st as before, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from *, end dec. 1 st, join; 48 sts.
Round 19 — Ch 3, * dec. 1 st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from *, end dec. 1 st, join. Pull up loop, do not break. Stuff firmly with cotton batting.
Final round — Ch 3, dec. 1 st in every 2 sts, end 1 dc in last st, join. Fasten off, leaving end. Gather remaining sts tog. and fasten.
LEGS (Make 4)
With A, ch 5, slip st in first st. Ch 3, work 17 dc in ring, join; 18 sts.
Round 2 — Ch 3, 1 dc in back loop of 2nd and each remaining st, join.
Round 3 — Ch 3, inserting hook in both loops, 1 dc in 2nd and each remaining st, join.
Round 4 — Same as round 3, end drop A, join with slip st using B.
Round 5 — With B work same as round 3, end drop B, join with slip st using A. Continue in this way, working 3 more rounds with A, 1 round with B, 3 rounds with A; join. Fasten off both colors.
NECK AND HEAD
With A, ch 24, slip st in first st, ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd and each remaining st of ch, join; 24 sts.
Work 2 more rounds with A, 1 round with B, 3 rounds with A, 1 round with B, join last round using A.
Round 9 — With A, ch 2, 1 sc in each of 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of 14 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of 4 sts, join in top of ch 2.
Repeating last round, work 2 more rounds with A, 1 with B, 3 with A, 1 with B, 2 with A.
Round 19 — With A, ch 3, 1 dc in each st, join; 24 sts.
Round 20 — With A, ch 3, * dec. 1 st in next 2 sts; repeat from * around, end 1 dc in last st, join with B.
Round 21 — With B, ch 2, * draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts and work off as 1 sc; repeat from * around, join.
Fasten off and gather remaining sts.
EARS
With A, ch 8, slip st in first st. Ch 1, work 1 sc in each st, do not join, continue around working 1 sc in each st until 5 rounds. Fasten off. Make 2nd ear with B.
TAIL
With A, ch 6, join and work sc around as for ears until 5 rounds. Skip next st and work sc around on 5 sts for 5 rounds. Skip next st and work sc around on 4 sts for 5 rounds. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Stuff legs, neck and head firmly with cotton batting and sew on body as illustrated. Sew on ears and tail and embroider eyes.
