Free Crochet Pattern for a Bag:
Pattern Number 2710
J. and P. COATS KNIT CRO-SHEEN
4 balls of Beige, 1 ball of Hunter's Green
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6
1/3 Yard each of Buckram and Matching Green Felt for Lining
2 Snap Fasteners
Use 4 threads throughout.
Gauge: 4 sts make 1 inch; 4 1/2 rnds make 1 inch.
Bag - Front
Starting at center with Beige, ch 8.
1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working across opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each ch across.
2nd rnd: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc) twice.
3rd to 16th rnds incl: (Sc in sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc) 4 times; sc in sc to end of rnd. Break off.
Bag - Back
Work exactly as for Front.
Crocheting the Bottom
Starting at center with Beige, ch 4. Join.
1st rnd: 10 sc in ring.
2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.
3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around.
4th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (40 sc).
5th and 6th rnds: Sc in each sc around.
7th rnd: * Sc in next sc. 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (60 sc).
8th and 9th rnds: Sc in each sc around.
10th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (80 sc).
11th and 12th rnds: Sc in each sc around. Break off.
Gusset and Strap
Starting at short end, with Green, ch 4.
1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 29 inches. Break off.
Sew ends of gusset between the 2 short sides of bag to within 1 1/2 inches of top. With right sides facing, place bottom in place between lower edges of bag. Using Green and working through both thicknesses, make a rnd of sc, thus joining pieces. Cut a piece of cardboard for bottom, then line bag with buckram and felt. Sew snap fasteners in place at top. Turn the front 1 1/2 inches over for a flap and crease.
